Quoting Stfu Shirley:" Alabama tried to regulate pi to 3. Kansas stopped teaching evolution. Mississippi stopped teaching fractions. If I lived in one of those states I'd be mad about paying into public schools too."

My 4 year old is learning about 1 whole, 1/2, and 1/4th. That's awful.
Quoting PurpleBama582:" Wow. My grandparents raised my sister and me from the time I was two and my sister was 3. We lived in ... [snip!] ... not want their kids to grow up thinking they are better than others, or their "wealth" might not be as great as she assumes. "(plus the homeschools here are done through churches and they have that whole "statement of faith" thing that I can't go along with)

Quoting sassy chef:" Many co-ops tend to be ran out of churches/religious establishments or whatever. But yea, there are ... [snip!] ... our day to day routine & curricula. Our co-op isn't in a church though, just a group of homeschool moms who rotate houses. "We don't do co-op at all - we have a social group to get together with for field trips & parties/events, but I don't work with anyone else in educating my kids. In fact most of the things my kids are involved in for socializing are non educational (in the "school" sense) like martial arts & such.
Quoting Stfu Shirley:" I don't know why they teach girls anything other than cooking, sewing, and bjs anyway."

We do non-educational things like gymnastics, awana, etc. I love our little co-op group though. We're talking about changing a few things up, but it's all pretty casual. The kids have a blast with it all. We'll officially start K next fall. I'm looking forward to it.
