Introducing solids

posted 15th Jan
Baby girl is 9 months old and were introducing new solids into her diet. Some of the foods they say to introduce make me nervous like meats and things of that nature. She has her 2 bottom teeth and she's getting her top left one. I need advice on how to introduce them and what else I should be really trying. Thanks at work so kind of a post and run

She's never had solids yet? Www.wholesomebabyfood.com has each food and what age it's recommended. If this is her first experince I would start with the 4-6 mo foods. But with her beig older you'll cruise through foods easily. At this point there's really no point in purées. I'd just use regular foods and chunk, chip, or strip it and let her feed herself. If its a harder food you can lightly steam them so theyre hard enough to finger but soft enough they can bite good.

Heck my LC exclusively breastfed her two children until they were 2 yrs old. They went straight from the breast to table foods never had an ounce of solids when they were younger.

That's awesome. I think I may do that for a yr with this one. But well see as it comes. Dd1 was 8 mos.

(and if I came across wrong I was just asking if she's had solids yet as a clarification so I gave the correct advice not like "omg you haven't have you baby solids yet?!?!" I'm all for delayed solids  ).

LO is that age. I just started making him rice pastas with diluted tomato sauce, lean grass fed beef and spinach.... Or tofu, red lentils, chicken and apple pureed.... That's all we've tried so far.

Not saying this is wrong, but thought I'd throw in my experience- my 10 month old just started solids...

and chokes on anything that isn't a puree.

She eats cereal puffs and mashed potatoes and will share some muffin in the morning. It's just some of the stuff they say she could be eating makes me nervous because she's gagged pretty good on some stuff. She does chew very well I just don't want to push it. She can eat anything puréed like stage 2 1/2 baby food with little chunks I just don't want her to choke.

Gagging or choking? Gagging is normal. Even some babies gag on purées.

Well she's gagged on stuff and at about 6 months she choked on a cereal puff because she wasn't ready but now she does really well.

Gagging is normal it's just their bodys natural reaction to prevent choking. Even as adults we gag on stuff sometimes haha. But a 9 mo is a lot better at eating than a 6 mo. I'd just steam the foods. I dont like those puffs anyway. I'd just do Cheerios haha
