a lady at my daughters daycare asked if i was going to enroll my daughter in day care this year or next, becuase my daughter turns 5 a day before school starts. she was telling me how she enrolled her daughter at 6 so that way she wasn't the youngest in the class. idk what to do i always thought they go in a five

Depends on when the school's cut off date is. DD's future school is July 31st.

They can go in at 5, it all depends on if she is ready or not.

I think you need to look up the cut off date for signing her up.

I thought they start kindergarden at 4?? Maybe that's just in Canada.

My daughter was enrolled for Pre-K last year but while we were filling out the forms they realized her birthday is oct 4th and she couldn't enroll until this year. I hope this helps

It depends on the cut off. My oldest started at 5, and didnt turn 6 until after school got out. My middle son turned 6 a week after school started. Just find out when the cut off is

i went when i was four..cause my birthday was in december so i was 4 for about 3 months before 5

you have to already be 5 here. You just need the cutoff info

We did preschool at 5 and kindergarten at 6- just because we had to based on when his bday was and the schools cut off date.

We have a cut off date of Aug. 31st here, but personally, it would just depend on if they were ready or not.

My son's birthday is three weeks before the September 1st cutoff. I did a ton of research, and talked to several teachers, administrators and other parents. Ultimately we decided to wait until my son is 6 to start him for a number of reasons. First of all, he's already small for his age (14th percentile in height and weight). If you make him the youngest in the class, he will for sure be the smallest. Second, he's a very high energy kid, and I just didn't think he was ready to sit still in a classroom for most of the day yet. And third, almost everyone that I talked to (especially teachers and principals) said that it's better to give them an extra year to mature. However, most of them specified that that's especially for boys since they don't mature as fast. Girls aren't as cut and dry. Talk to her preschool teachers and ask them if they think she's ready to go to kindergarten in the fall or not.

Is she even ready?
While I could have likely placed my daughter in 4 year old kindergarten this year, she was no where near ready emotionally for that. My 5 year old was born in mid-August and is the youngest in her class and she does perfectly fine.

Your district has a cut off date, ours is 5 before August 31st at midnight. My daughter was born September 1st and had to wait a whole extra year to start kinder, she is one of the oldest in the class.

Our cutoff here is September 2nd...My youngest missed it by a week(Sept 9th). So we have to wait until this coming fall to register her. I think she COULD have gone this year, had she met the cutoff date, but I am glad she didn't. She's done so well with her preschool and up until this past fall, she had never been in daycare before. I am glad she's gotten the structure and socialization.
