Will my baby ever take longer naps??

posted 15th Jan
I have a serious cat-napper on my hands. DD is 2 months old and will only sleep 30 - 45 minutes at a time. I have tried putting her down at the very first signs of sleepiness (yawning, eye rubbing, etc), keeping her up to play, making sure she has a full belly and clean diaper before her nap, staying in there with her to help soothe her back to sleep, pacifier, dark rooms, white noise, list goes on.

Someone please tell me this is just a phase? Pretty please?

My ds did that sometimes. He is 10 months and (for the most part) takes 2 naps now. He's a pretty good sleeper.   Eventually she will sleep longer.

Watching! DS will be 7 months and he takes 20 minute naps. He can't seem to sleep longer than 20 minutes, like ever.

Yep that's how newborns can be. My son will nap though for hours on end but sometimes will take a random 20 minute nap then be ready to play more. He's 3 months old.

I'm sorry to tell you my first did that and nothing worked but her getting older. Even then she didnt sleep through a whole night (6hrs-8hrs) until she was 2 1/2yrs old. I'm just hoping that the baby im about to have doesnt kill me like she did. I feel for you. and hopefully when she gets older she wont be so afraid to miss anything (im pretty sure that was my little ones problem)!

My son was the exact same way from around the time he started having stretches of wakefulness, until he was around 6 months old.
When she wakes up, go in a try rocking/nursing her back to sleep. Lay down with her if you need to. We did this for a week or two and he eventually started sleeping longer. He's 9 months now and takes two naps a day, totaling 3-4 hours.
If she doesn't go back to sleep, just make sure to keep putting her down multiple times per day, at the first sign of tiredness, to ensure that she is getting enough total sleep. I think one of DS's problems was that he was over-tired a lot of the time.

My 5 week old is the same has been for the past couple weeks, and she get's very over tired/cranky, so I have to lay her on her tummy, that way she naps 3-4 hours.

I have heard tummy sleeping can solve cat-napping but I've been a little scared to try it. I think, though, it may be time to give it a try. I'll just constantly keep an eye on her while she sleeps. (Of course, with my luck, it won't work anyway, lol)

It's fine as long as you keep checking, seriously do it   I know it's a real pain in the butt when they have those little power naps, esp when you have other things around the house that need to be done, or simply need some "me" time lol, maybe I'm the only one.
