Bountiful Baskets

posted 15th Jan
If you guys live in a state that does this... I hope you're doing it. This is the most awesome thing ever. www.bountifulbaskets.org

You pay for your basket online Mon/Tues and pick up Sat morning. $15 bucks, and the produce fills up a whole laundry basket. Tons of fresh fruits and veggies. Never know what's in the basket that week, but there's always awesome stuff like kale, avocados, cherries, melons, carrots, lettuce, you name it.

There are also add ons... like 5 loaves of bread for 10 bucks or this week I'm getting 8 lbs of strawberries for 14. You can also pay an extra 10 to get an all organic basket.

It's so awesome and teaches you how to cook new things with the ingredients you get.

The states that do it are:

Wyoming
Montana
Utah
Georgia
Kentucky
Iowa
Kansas
Nebraska
Oklahoma
Texas
Colorado
Idaho
North Dakota
South Dakota
Arizona
Nevada
Oregon
Washington

Boo, no Indiana!

We did something similar with another family last year. We split the cost, and we went every other week. It was fantastic!

I would totally be on that if they did it in Florida.

It's such an awesome program! I think they should implement it in all states. Its so good for families and so cheap! I wonder if you can write and request to start it in your state?

Maybe. We have a ton of co-ops like that at our farmer's market though - which is where we did it at. Every Saturday (when it was our turn) we brought our basket and they filled it up!

I think they finally have some farmers markets now that it's cooled off here. I should see what they offer. When I'm on a clean eating kick, I like to have tons of produce around

Really? Whole grain organic bread for 2 dollars a loaf? That's actually really good.....

I pay 2$ a loaf for it in the store....and that's when it is on sale & not organic.

I love it but you have to use/preserve it fast here. My friend gave me an extra basket last week and it's been in the fridge but the carrots and celery are already bendy/rubbery. Gonna slice them and freeze them for soups though.

I had that problem with the celery too. My problem is that I dont know how to store everything.
