Wtf so she is angry because he needed time to cool off? She is pressing his buttons and not giving him his space.

I've started to do that too. If my son hits out of anger I hold his hand down and say NO, NO HIT. but sometimes I am just SOOOOO tired of him hitting me I will tap his hand or butt and so no hit then he will just kiss me.

Hell yeah he's going to get a pow pow. My son is going on 4. There is no way I will tolerate it now and there is no way I would tolerate it when he's 15.

I dont use spanking as an immediate way to discipline my child so wouldnt spank my DD (4) for hitting me. I would remind her that hitting is unacceptable and if it continues she will be disciplined (usually by losing toys for a period of time or standing in the corner). Most of the time shes learned her lesson before id even have to resort to spanking her.

Yeah, I've learned a lot about discipline from taking Early Childhood courses at the community college. That, and my Early Childhood Careers class in high school taught me a lot about dealing with that, too.

When I was in 11th grade, I was in a class where we had to teach preschoolers three days a week, and we had one 4-year-old who had real bad anger problems (lots of home problems, divorced parents, addict parents, etc etc), my teacher had to teach us how to deal with him. We got hit a few times, but as a student in the Early Childhood Careers class, we had to learn how to deal with children like that.

Children aren't hard to understand, you just have to get down on their level, and not make them feel intimidated.

I spanked my oldest a few times-but only when he was in imminent danger (running off, climbing a bookshelf, etc)and it was more of just a reflex---

I never found it to be effective at anything other than making me feel like total smurf. I just feel like, I'm the adult, here. I shouldn't treat bad behavior with worse behavior.

So, as someone who has spanked in the past, I don't really judge anyone for it---I just...it doesn't work for me. I'm not anti spanking, I'm pro do whatever works, I guess.

But no, I don't feel that's a good reason to spank. Seems counterproductive.
