calorie counting

posted 15th Jan
I'm working out and counting calories - trying to lose at least 20lb by April.

But saw I run on the treadmill and burn 200 calories, do I have to make up those 200 calories? So instead of eating 1400 calories that day, I'd have to eat 1600?
Or do I just stick with eating 1400, regardless of how many I burn during exercise?

No don't eat to make it up...you won't lose any weight that way. You maintain weight that way.

stick with the 1400. It creates a bigger deficit.

I think youre supposed to have a total of XX amount of calories after what youve burned. At least thats how i did it. My intake was supposed to be 1300 so i knew if id planned on 1400 i had to burn atbleast 100 to hit my goal.

That's what I thought, but I wanted to make sure I wasn't starving myself.

there are certain ways to see how many calories you need for your body. with my p90x it came with a "calculator" to see what kind of diet was best for my body. and then it had meals and stuff you could eat to suit your needs. I wonder if there is something online?

Yep this...the really low calorie diets are more geared towards the people who are more stagnant and it also depends on how your body reacts. Most personal trainers will custom tailor and change diet, calorie counts and whatnot just because everyone is different.

Ok, if you only eat 1400 a day and burn 200... Your actual calorie intake is 1200. Not enough. You WON'T gain or not lose by eating those 200 back. You're already at a deficit just from eating only 1400. You won't starve yourself if you don't eat them back but its better for your body if you do eat them back. Honestly. I'm not just saying this either. I lost 45 lbs. I figured out what works and granted I'm sure our bodies are not the same, everyone is different, but I'm sure yours works similarly.
