The point of godparents, they pretty much like "backup" parents. "Godparents are strictly religious figures. They have no legal rights unless you give them...you would have to make a will naming them as guardians should something happen to you, and even then I don't think there's a guarantee. Being godparents doesn't automatically give them guardianship should something happen to both parents.
