i can't make your mind up for u,but i would by what u have said about each is to go with the person u have known the longest and who u know the best. personally myself i only choose one godmother and one god father.they have to be the person i would feel best leaving my child with if anything was ever to happen to me and my husband.this is usually only a family member as i never trust any friend. family are there forever friend come and go. but seeing as you are choosing a friend too i would go with the friend u known the longest.it doesn't matter that she never asked u to be godmother. hope this helps a lil  

Why do you need 2 sets of godparents?

thank you for the help. i just wanted to pick family as i didnt want to have to choose between friends but so wanted to pick his friend. he thought that if i picked family and he picked a friend his sister would be very offended that she wasnt asked. thats why we both decided that we would pick one friend and one family member. over here its very common to have two sets of godparents.

It must depend on the denomination. Most churches have specific requirements about who is selected as godparents.

over here they dont. as long as they have been christened they are fine. it will be 2 males and 2 females

that would be one crazy and long process for the kids to figure out who they should go to if something were to happen to you guys. I would stick to one set of godparents.

i figured that it would be better to have more so they have more options. if anything was to happen to me or my partner lo would be taken care of by my mum

The purpose of a godparent is to sponsor a child's baptism...it's a religious role and doesn't mean the child will go to them if something happens to the parents.

They're supposed to be part of a child's religious upbringing. So I would pick the person you think best suited to that purpose.

they are also there to be an option for the kid to go to if need be, my husbands family is christian and are VERY religious when it comes to that stuff. both my kids have one set of godparents. when it comes to christianing then sure pick whoever you want to be there. The point of godparents, they pretty much like "backup" parents.

Godparents are strictly religious figures. They have no legal rights unless you give them...you would have to make a will naming them as guardians should something happen to you, and even then I don't think there's a guarantee. Being godparents doesn't automatically give them guardianship should something happen to both parents.

There is a separation of church and state...naming someone a godparent in the church holds no bearing with the law whatsoever.

Completely untrue.

If you want the children to go to them, you need to make a guardianship codicil in your wills.
