Do you believe parents that yell/argue in front of their children is just as bad as parents that are physically fighting?

IMO my dad beating the smurf out of my mom was worse than them yelling at each other.

IMPO exposing children to verbal abuse can be way more damaging. Lets face it bruises, cuts, and even broken bones eventually heal but words stick with people. Verbal abuse after so long tears a person down and destroys a persons self confidence and the way they see themselves. I grew up watching my mother get her ass beat almost every day and being talked down to every day. And while it killed me to see her being hit it hurt me even worse to see her talked to like that and then to see her eventually see herself in that negative way just because she was constantly being told negative things about herself.

There's a difference between loud fighting and verbal abuse. Even when DH and I are happy, we yell at each other. We're just loud people.

Right.

I was definitely assuming she meant verbal abuse as opposed to yelling at each other about spaghetti or something, for sure.

Just wanted to clarify since the OP said "arguing" and IMO that's normal and not abusive

That is why I am sitting here like double taking all of these comments. She never said verbal abuse. Just arguing and yelling.

idk if verbal abuse is the correct term. But I mean "fighting" but not physically, no throwing things but yelling at each other maybe a cuss word here an there but not out right verbally beating someone down.

sorry, my kindle is being weird I could reply until now..

I meant to be more specific but I'm having issues typing on my kindle and hit enter too soon, then couldn't edit, so I just left it....

IMO, and I'm sorry if you think this is out of line, but based on your previous post I think you're trying to justify the way your husband is treating you because it's "not as bad as physical abuse".

Respect is not the lack of physical violence, and I just wanted to say that to you, hun. (And I can delete this if you like.)
