how often to pump
posted 14th Jan
I am trying to give my nipples A break but don't want to ruin my supply. How often should I pump? My baby is 5 days old. I swear I'm like a dairy cow, I can get at least 3 Oz per boob every 2 hours.

every two hours, for twenty minutes.
that's what a lactation consultant told me and the LLL, it was the only way to keep up my supply. I'd freeze some of your milk ahead of time too!

I was told pumping before 4-6 weeks isn't recommended (I'm sure it would be fine). I suggest hand expressing into a cup and syringe feeding. We did this in the beginning and it really helped give my nipples a break when it hurt too much. Try using Lanolin cream in between each feeding. It helped take the soreness away so much! Good luck mama!

Ohhh, and if your nipples are sore. try Lansinoh Soothies. they are ten bucks a pair but last three days. You pop em in the fridge and they feel AMAZING.
