playpen VS crib

Need opinions on using a playpen for long term bedding. Has anyone done this? Is it safe?

I'm using a pack and play as a bassinet, but I wouldn't use it long-term. It doesn't seem comfortable at all as the baby gets bigger...?

Why wouldn't it be safe? DS has been using it and our bed for 7.5 months. He doesn't like his crib

At my sister in laws suggestion, we are using our pack n play until DD is ready for a toddler bed. The pack n play we purchased has a bassinet to go on it which says its safe for up to 15 pounds or when the baby starts rolling over. After that you cant use the bassinet and you have to lower the padding to the very bottom. If youre worried about the level of comfort you can always buy/make extra padding. My nephew will be one next month and hes always slept in his fine.

Im sure its safe but i dont think they recommend using them for long term use. When baby is little its doing alot of growing nad stuff and the sleeping part just isnit great for little bones to be on at every nap time and bed time.

DS slept in his pack n play for almost 2 years :/

DD used the bassinet for 4 months, then switched to her crib. Her crib got recalled so I threw it out and she slept in her pack n play until she was about 20 months.

I don't know if its the same over there but in Australia its regarded as unsafe and only meant to be used for holidays etc. They are not sturdy enough and have been known to collapse and kill babies, its also a big SIDs no-no to put mattresses in them as babies have also been known to suffocate by sliding in between the mattress and side of the cot which seems impossible but its not. Everyone does things much differently in other countries though, we call them portacots and we never use them as playpens.
