nut allergy discovered at 4!!!??

Just had our first emergency doctor visit.
I was at work and Tate told my husband his eyes hurt. Ty looked at him and his eyes were red and puffy and he had welts and a rash coming out on his back.
Ty called me at work to come and take them to the doc. In the 15 mins it took me to get to them it had spread all over his back and stomach.
By the time we drove another 15 minutes to his pediatrician it was all over his back, belly, legs, and chest.
We only waited about 15 more minutes to see the pedi and by that time it was up his neck, face, and even causing his scalp to itch like crazy. I was terrified.
Pedi said it was an allergic reaction. The only thing I can think of was the cashews. He has had peanuts before but I dont think he has ever had cashews (seed family) or any type of the tree nuts.
Other possibility is the cashews were cooked in sea salt so.maybe seafood allergy? He doesnt like to try things so I dont think.he hss had any shellfish.
He got oral steroids and benadryl and is looking and feeling much better. But I am totally freaked!

That must have been so scary Glad he's feeling better!
I would request getting a teter done to verify what the allergy is. Not sure what allergies are like for the seed family, but seafood allergies can be pretty serious.

My MIL is allergic to seafood and is still able to eat sea salt, so I doubt that's it. It's possible that he may have developed a nut allergy. I'd consult an allergist about a scratch test.

You can be allergic to specific nuts and develop allergies anytime. I'm allergic to walnuts but not any other kind. I used to be able to eat them just fine, then a few years ago they started making my lips swell so bad it was splitting the skin open.

Peanuts, cashews, almonds and pecans all have a lot of oil in them. My son was 2 1/2 when we found out he was allergic to almonds so they told us to watch him with the other high oil nuts because he most likely would have an allergy to them too. He doesn't so far at 7 1/2.

Thanks for the info. Seasalt is not seafood but has tiny marine copolymers in it which is basically itty bitty bits of shell fish. So it is possible to cause shellfish allergy but doesnt happen very often. We plan on doing some testing and getting tbis figured out.
