When did you start buying things for first baby?

posted 14th Jan
I am almost 18 weeks and my nesting instinct is already crazy! I was wondering when you ladies give into it?
My SO is more hesitant to start buying and I tell him I want to buy things over time instead of all at once, and I want to get the important things like the travel system and the co sleeper and maybe some storage options before he leaves for boot camp. Which is feb 20. I already have 5 3 month onesies, 7 newborn onesies, 4 newborn outfits and one 3 month outfit. These are a mixture of what I got on a gift card and what my sister got me. I know I should wait until 24 weeks but that is so hard! I figured I'd just tape receipts to boxes and wouldn't open them until 24 weeks? Lol I'm a nut! I am just so excited for my son.

We didn't buy anything until after my baby shower for our second.
We didn't have to buy anything for our first.

Why should you wait until 24 weeks? I started at 16 wks. After I found out I was having a girl I have gone crazy with buying things for her lol.

Only thing I bought right away was putting the crib on layaway at 16 weeks.

Then didn't buy anything else until after my baby shower at 32 weeks.

My mom got an awesome deal on a bassinet when I was 5 weeks pregnant with my first. Lol. But I didn't start until after the first trimester and even then it was neutral blankets. I waited to find out the sex to start buying, then I went crazy. Lol. But I also knew I wouldn't be having a baby shower so we bought something every week so that by the time he got here we'd have everything.

I'd honestly buy all the big things: crib, changing table, etc. At the baby shower, most people will be getting you clothes.

That is when the baby is viable outside the womb.

I started with buying diapers. I didn't buy clothes until the last two months or so. Then all the big items (carseat, stroller, etc.... were all gifts)

this is tough! because i know that my son is growing like a freaking weed and now all of the clothes that i bought in advance will be seasonably inappropriate by the time he is able to fit into them!

I bought diapers from.the very start. And a crib. Bassinet. Then went crazy when I found out the gender. You never know when a baby will come so I started as soon as possible. I don't think everyone has an exact week to start. Its up to you  congrats

I would say buy your big things. I bought my bassinet, my crib and then put my stroller and car seat on lay away. I honestly wish I had bought more then I have right now, because I have 7 and 1/2 weeks until my little boy is here and I feel like I don't have anything lol. I mean I do have stuff but I wish I would have bought and given in to my want to shop more then I did. I would say purchase things like some blankets, and your big thing and stuff like the wash clothes and, the baby creams and safety kit, anything that you know for sure you won't get at your shower, and make sure you keep the receipts to it all. I would say go ahead mama. I am feeling pretty stressed out that I didn't buy more stuff in the beginning. I knew I wouldn't get much at my shower, but now I still have my CD to buy, and my diaper bag, and just a few other things that I wanted to buy but decided to wait on. Remember like you said you can always return them  . Buying all at once makes it harder, and makes with where you may forget something   so I like the buying over time method!
