I'm so stuck!

posted 14th Jan
I have had it with my 3 1/2 old constantly being ugly to his little brother. He closes the bedroom door on him, takes whatever he has in his hand and says no, blocks the TV so he can't watch, doesn't let him play with their toys, even push him! I believe it may be jealousy but I treat them all the same. I've told dh I'd like to spend individual time with each of our kids so they all have equal Mommy daddy time.

I just don't know what to do, I'm tired of hearing the baby cry and yell everytime he does something to him. The worst is screaming at the Baby when he cries ugh. Advice please? My youngest is 1.

Completely normal behavior. My 5 year old treats my 3 year old the same way. When my DD#1 starts doing that I put her in time out.

I think putting your foot down and sticking with something is the best advice I can give. Like if you decide to spank or timeouts, maybe a behavior chart? Somthing of that sort is what I would try first. And maybe reward him for doing activities with his brother. Get them matching stuff? That is what I did when my nephew (my brother lives with me) got this way with my son.

I would really go overboard and thank him for his GOOD behaviour with his brother.

Also, sometimes with DD I will tell her a story of me doing the same thing that she is doing when I was little and then explain why I changed it

I haven't really done any discipline for him acting like that I guess cause I know siblings fight but it's been getting so worse it's something iseriously need to consider thanks

Hm matching stuff would be cool. He does good with him sometimes but like yesterday he said he didn't like his brother. Broke my heart.

Yeah my nephew was 3 when DS was born and as soon as DS could stand my nephew would push him over by his head. Throw toys at him, pinch him all that stuff. I started rewarding when he was nice to DS and also bought them matching Lightening McQueen pjs, shoes socks. He really liked it. Also I'd give him the "you're such a big boy. He's just a baby, he's not a big boy like you. When you're gentle with the baby that makes you a really nice big boy." He loved that. I think it made him feel special.
