That stinks   my parents always dragged me along on their drunken parties. My first memory was of me in a bar, sitting on a bar stool by the jukebox, room full of smoke and people partying away. I think I was about 3-4. Honestly thinking of all the crap I went through because of my parents addictions it made for a crappy childhood.

My mum smoked with all 3, my step mom with her two kids and my mother in law smoked with all 4 her kids! All of us came out fine and healthy! In those days you were still allowed to smoke in hospitals and while breastfeeding your child! I am not saying that it is not bad because it is but these days people go a bit nuts over everything! you can't do that, you can't do this! You should not smoke a package a day but a smoke here and there won't harm the baby. What about all the people that live in big city's and breath in all the fumes every day? I myself have a smoke every now and then but never more than 5 a day. I eat very healthy, make sure I get enough vitamin C, and Iron. I know a lot of people are going to disagree but I am just giving my opinion. all us 70 and 80s baby's are fine! And Those days know one knew smoking was bad!

Just smurfing wow is all I have to say. ugh.

You summed it right up on your last sentence, people didn't know smoking was bad back in those days... but now we do... why be so selfish to gamble with your babies health?

Smoking is not good for you or your baby or anyone having to breathe that filthy smurf in, period. Smart people are "going nuts" about how smoking causes a range of health issues, due to proven facts and longterm research... it's not our opinion. You and any other women who want to put their unborn children at risk, that's your decision but don't think for one minute that you can justify it because it really is not okay. Not even a tiny bit. Not at all.

Everyone is saying low birth weight, premature, breathing issues - this is all just common sense! I quit smoking a day before I found out I was pregnant with my first, 6.5 years ago - I didn't smoke at all during all three pregnancies.. I just *tried* a cigarette again after being smoke-free for so long & it wasn't anything what I rememebered and super nasty!!!!! But, anyway, my first daughter was born premature, due to my blood pressure issues - not from smoking... & no mother should ever have to feel this pain..... Your being stupid. Think of your baby, not yourself.

my mum smoked all through her pregnancies with me and my 2 siblings and the only thing that has come of it is that i have slight asthma which only affects me if i go on 10 mile runs or run uphill. All 3 of us were born at the right time and the right weight.
Cutting down is the best option but i personally know how hard it is. I've cut down to a maximum of 5 a day and i am one of the grouchiest people around, but if everything is going fine then just cut down a little bit just to be sure.

Yeah same here, I have been a pack a day smoker for over 10 years, It is really hard to quit! I am not going over my 5 a day anymore! My doctor actually told me that there are no help options for pregnant women as with everything like the gum or tablets you still get the nicotine hit! I am still trying everyday to smoke less and less but it's better just to have a puff than to stress yourself out!
It's hard to be honest on this forum and for us smokers just to talk about it as you get judged and yelled at from all sides!

That's bullsmurf you can do the patch or whatever else, the difference is you're not inhaling smoke. Inhaling any kind of smoke deprives both the body and the baby of oxygen so yeah you're still getting a nicotine hit but you're not getting the smoke. That was just a flat out excuse to not smoke, and whatever OB told you there's no other option is an idiot. Yeah I'm not a medical pro. and I'm calling him an idiot. I smoked from 14-15 till 19 quit, and a month later found out because I was pregnant. Not all women have it that easy but don't throw around advice like there's no other option except smoking. There is. And it is less dangerous all other side effects and birth defects aside, is deprives the fetus of oxygen! That's why weed is such a big back and forth topic people who are for weed while pregnant, even say, don't smoke it vap or bake. You just sounded stupid. At least you're trying though. And again just because women had healthy babies, they were lucky that's why it's a statistic. so many, in so many women. It's a ratio. And they were the lucky ones. We freak out now because the tabaco isn't what harms people anymore it's the chemicals that keep us addicted, it's the ADDED nicotine. etc., which I'll gladly put in myself, but not my unborn child who has no choice. That's wrong.

also why do you think you get yelled at and judged?! Because we all know it's wrong, even those of us including myself who smoked. It is hard but it's worth it for my child. I used the excuse a few times while I was pregnant before miscarrying (No the two weren't related) but I used the excuse I'll cut back and quit it's not the worth the stress! I admit it was an excuse I didn't want to quit. Plain and simple.

There are adults who were born addicted to crack. But, are now "healthy and fine".
Doesn't make it right.

You ladies are just making excuses to make yourself feel better. It's pretty disgusting actually. Poor babies.

Whatever though. Your body, your choice.

It's just a shame it's not just their bodies but, it's still their choice. :/

I'm shocked by the number of mothers/pregnant women admitting to smoking. Some of you say that when the baby is born you will cut down, but will you really? Is it then something to do with the fact that you can't see the baby when it's inside you and it's sort of a case of 'out of sight, out of mind'? I'll bet a lot of you paid attention to the information about not eating certain foods, yet you're more than okay with subjecting your growing baby to toxins and chemicals, very strange. Still, everyone has a different idea of what a good mother is. In my opinion, your maternal instinct is severely lacking if you choose to smoke.
