Nebulizers? (sp?)

posted 14th Jan
DS is a little over 9 months old and he has a chest cold. The doctor gave us a prescription for a nebulizer. It came with a face mask as well as a face mask with a strap. The only problem is he thrashes around so much we can't keep the mask on him for more than a minute and his treatment is about 10 minutes 3 times a day  . Is there any way that you found easier to give you LO their treatments? Thanks!

The mask doesn't have to touch him. Try to put it near his face so the medicine is still inhaled. Maybe he is scared of it. My son hated them too at that age! It was a battle but its only a few minutes. Good luck! Hope he feels better.

That's what I tried first, we just kind of waved it in front of his face. He squirms and moves around so much my husband is afraid he'll hurt him. He HATES it lol so we hoped the mask would be better. Thanks!

It supposed to be good when they get upset because they breath in deeper. If you are anything like me I can't do it like thatand I just chase them around with the tube attachment they get the majority of it. It's really easy when they are eating for me. Good luck.

Yeah he was in hysterics last night. The eating is a good idea, I'll try that thanks!

Hold him, rock him, sing to him. Do anything that soothes him while holding the mask in front of him. DD is 3 and has asthma and has had it since she was about 17 months old so I know the troubles of using a nebulizer at such a young age. She is now used to it and will sit without a problem until it's done.

Also try the paci. It worked wonders when starting out for DD as well!
