That is exactly what I told her, he starts breathing as soon as he passes out. So freakin scary, sorry you guys had to go through that!! Eeek. She will definitely talk to the dr

MY BIL did this when he was young. He would get so mad that he would hold his breath till he passed out, there was nothing anyone did to calm him down he was just pass out ad wake up a few seconds late fine. I would have her talk to the doctor about it, its not healthy for him at such a young age. My BIL s now 23 I think and has some major anger issues, he is out of control.

It's a fairly common thing for little kids to be so upset they hold their breath. There isn't actually anything a doctor can do for it. I rushed my son off to the ER, got an $800 visit to be told "He'll grow out of it."

She can if she wants, it's a pretty big waste of a trip though unless she seriously thinks something is wrong.

My brother did that too and now that I think about it, he has some anger issues as well. He would do it when he was mad and at the time he was only a toddler!

She said he does it only when hes hurt or upset and hes crying when hes doing it, not intentionally holding his breath like my brother did. Like he cries so hard he cant breathe and passes out. She definitely needs to talk to his pedi about it tomorrow, but I have a feeling theres not much shes going to be able to do

Also it is not something that happens on purpose. It is actually an involuntary reaction to being so upset.

Being a former breath holder, it's a whole hell of a lot easier for someone to tell you to breathe then to actually register and tell yourself to breathe. I out grew it when I was 8.

Well, its not a wasted trip...she has his 1 yr check up tomorrow, so she said she will mention it to her. Im sure its just something he will grow out of. I told her she can try to quickly distract him to get him to calm quicker, but other than that I dont think there is much she can do. He probably just gets himself really worked up

For sure...especially when the kid is only a year old lol. There have been times Ive cried so hard Ive lost my breath for a bit, and that is probably what is going on with him, but he cant catch it again

Ya, thats what happens. When a baby or child s crying its usually cause they are upset, and crying so hard that you cant breath should be addressed. The pedi might be able to give her tips to help control his passing out. I hope they get help..

And Im not saying all kids who are like this will grow up to have anger issues, this is just the case with BIL....Just o clarify.

Yep, I understand what you were saying. When my brother did it, it was because he was pissed off. Like, oh youre not going to give me what I want? Then I will hold my breath! thinking that will "punish" his parents. lol. Sounds like he was really worked up and didnt know how to calm himself. Her blowing in his face probably made it worse.
