I just tried it. I sat down and asked him why he was angry and he said because I wouldn't carry him. And he never even asked me to....I'm so confused.

Time out isn't punishment....it's a discipline technique used to allow the child to calm themselves down and make it easier to understand why their actions were inappropriate.
He probably wanted a time out because he recognized he was escalating and wanted time to calm down.

DD has been doing this lately as well.. She will start to misbehave and I will give her the opportunity to fix her behavior on her own or she will find a corner to sit in. She almost always opts for the corner over correcting her behavior and I just don't get it. It's like she wants to be there over anything else, until that is she is actually there and I make her stay for her three minutes. She is also 3 years old
