lorazepam and breastfeeding

posted 14th Jan
My doctor just put me on .5mg of lorazepam I breastfeed I was wondering if anybody who has taken it noticed anything like their child getting aggitated more then normal. I just started taking it 1/11/13 I only take it when I need it but since it was the weekend I wanted to take it to make sure nothing happens so while I was at work I didn't have any issues...well I can't tell if my daughter is just upset (teething being a 5 month old) or if its a side effect from me taking the meds. She was extra angry and hitting yesterday, pinching biting etc. I've looked up some stuff on the internet but the most I find is that very small small amounts of the drug get into breastmilk and a list of what could happen mostly being trouble breathing drowsy the basic baby drug interaction issues. My mom(babysitter) is obviously keeping an eye on her and such just curious if anybody else has had an experience with the medication while breastfeeding.

Anxiety was getting to the point where I was getting chest/arm pain, passing out, didn't want to go out of the house hated going to work. I've never taken anything before as I could totally control my anxiety but difficult ending to my pregnancy and well it blew up in my face

I feel u,
That's how I am... I start shaking when my phone rings, it has to be on silent and only way I can tell if I missed call is the flashing lights, If some1 comes to the door I start hyperventalating, I have window shades and blackout curtains, because I'm paranoid, I have ocd, and severe depression, they wat to check me for bi polar...

Did they even offer u benedryl?? I've been on meds for *everything* for 11-12 years, I've taken everything, only thing they gave me was benedryl when I got preg and bf. Its safe, and none of my babies had any kind of reaction to it...

My doctor isn't very versed regarding breastfeeding he mostly deals with a much older crowd. I did much of the research on my own to find something and found a list from a pharmacist and reviewed by a doc with meds that are ok, semi ok and not ok for breastfeeding. My doctor at first was writing a script for xanax which I'm pretty sure is a big negative. I might have to check benedryl out I like Lorazepam so far minus it making me sleepy and my daughter seems kinda drowsy but still active I'm just worried about the agitation, it started yesterday so we can't tell yet if it was a fluke or a problem but yeah I don't want to take anything that might mess with her since she's still developing. At the same time I don't need to have a heartattack from anxiety getting out of control.

It would be unusual for her to show agitation, but anything is possible.

Ur primary care dr. perscribed it?
Have u seen a pshyc dr.?? I would ask for a referal, to be evaluated by mental health, my primary dr. Only perscribed me my meds because I was having issues with getting an appointment.
When I was real young, they gave me benedryl, then I got ativans, then xanax on so on,
Back to benedryl and chamomile tea evrytime I was preg, I would deff try benedryl for time being untill u got into mental health...

Yeah unfortunatly the only psych doc that is near and covered by my insurance is the same one my mother had and he just rights pills to get you to go away. Anxiety runs in my family, my mother is on some of the highest dosages you can get of the crap she is on(i can't keep track of what it is) My primary doc is actually really good doctor his practice has found a lot of things that were wrong with me that nobody could figure out for the past 15+ years. he's also been dealing with my mother for ever so he sees how bad it can get I personally have fought getting on anything for so long that it took my hair starting to fall out to get me in to see him. I'm gonna watch my daughter see how things are with her and see if the side effects I've gotten (yay falling asleep) get any better if nothing improves or my baby keeps getting angry then I'll be calling my doctor and ask about the benedryl. I hate taking pills of any kind.
Also to justanothomotha thnx yeah like I said yesterday was just weird she was highly aggitated and very violent she's my first so phases are new to me so I'm not sure if its just her starting a angry violent phase or if it might be the meds. I guess I'll keep any eye on her (or my mom will)
