I'd assume it means you have a fairly high chance of being sent to the hospital after your appointment.

That happened to me but I was 40 weeks so IDK if they'd do that at 38, you know?

Youve been 6 cm dilated since ur last appointment? Have you had any contractions or anything? Hopefully youve been doing a lot of walking to help baby drop down further.

I'd also mention that to the OB if you're already 6cm. It might determine what happens today because you only have 4 more centimeters to go before you start pushing and those 4 can go so fast you don't get the chance to get an epidural.

im scared smurfless! even though its my second. i had such a rough pregnancy, that i think im used to the pains, i had false labor 4 times, this past weekend lasting 3 hrs plus but i didnt go in as no regular contractions, yet nothing over 6 mins apart, but it comes goes comes goes, along with the period cramping, my stomach is so hard all the time now, the only way i feel contractions is after awhile i get the burning feeling in my stomach, woke up early today as i felt like my ass back and hips were gonna break.....i feel i cannot do this without pain meds, im scared as anything! and not afraid to admit it

my husband is a nurse and he checked me, and he uses lower numbers than doc :0( and if he said im 6 then omg im scared, my one question is, well he only checked me 2 times, as of monday at docs i was 4, but during my contractions i had my husband check as i felt like if i got dialated quick im goin to hospital

now though my cervix is right there! before u used to have to like dig for it!!!!! does it mean anything that u can just like put fingers in there regular and feel it right away?

I've gotten epis at 8cm twice.

But that just might be hospital policy to not do it past 6cm. And if they can't do it, there's always IV drugs thought pushing a baby out with no epidural isn't that bad, just scary to think about.

i know i seem like a wimp, lol but i just want to have a peaceful expereience as this is my first boy and last child, i have a 4 year old girl, i just wanna take it all in and not be scared smurfless!

Some women are like that. I went to my 40 week appointment with my second. I wasn't in pain and felt no contractions but I did feel like I had a bowling ball between my legs. WHen my OB checked me, he immediately sent me to the hospital because I was 6cm, 75% effaced, and my bag of waters was bulging out. She was born 4.5 hours later. My water would have broke on its own within the next hour or so. It broke on its own in the hospital. They tried to artificially rupture it but it refused to break.

I have a tendency to not feel any pain until I get into the transition part of labor. My contractions up to that point just feel like Braxton-Hicks but because I get so used to them during pregnancy, I don't pay much mind to them. After my second, I chose to have my last 2 pregnancies induced a week early so I knew when I was in labor.
