Breastfeeding.. Milk drying? Help?

posted 13th Jan
My daughter is now 5 weeks and a couple days old. At the beginning I was struggling to have her latch on so I just pumped and gave her that supply of milk then after a couple weeks I decided to try breastfeeding her again and was surprised it worked out quite well.. So I have been doing that for about the last three weeks & have had no problem. Now for the last two days I feel like I dont have as much milk.. My breasts usually feel full and leak a bit. The last two days they have felt empty like they usually do after a feeding. I am not sure what could have caused this because I havent changed anything in my daily life.. I ws wondering if this is normal like if its just me making just enough milk that she needs and not too much or if this means my milk is beginning to dry up? Because if thats the case I would like to know how to keep my milk supply so I could continue breastfeeding my daughter. Also I have been starting to get sick, not really sure if that could somehow affect my milk supply. And my little one has ALSO been getting super fussy the nights that this has been going on.. Just wondering if this has happened to anyone else out there and how to deal with this :/

your supply could be regulating. Just keep bringing her to your breast at will. As soon as she is hungry feed her. Make sure you are properly hydrated and that you aren't dieting. You still need at leat 1800 calories daily. You can eat healthy and exercise to gain your prebaby weight back (you burn a ton of calories while nursing. make sure you are properly suppling your body with nurtients to keep up your supply). I would eat a granola bar and drink a bottle of water with each feeding. That helped me. Good Luck!

Your milk is probably regulating. As long as you're nursing on demand and not supplementing her with bottles of bm or formula you should be producing fine. If she's having enough wet/dirty dipes she's fine.

Have u taken any meds for your cold?

If you are taking any cold meds you need to see what's in them. There are some drugs that can cause your milk supply to dry up.

Your supply could be regulating itself. You should make sure you are eating and drinking plenty throughout the day to keep your production up.

So its possible it's regulating and I'm producing just enough but not too much right? Cause before I would get really full and my breasts would get hard and leak before each feeding and now they feel like they do after a feeding so I was wondering if thats normal.. But thank you for the response!

& No I havent been taking any medications for my cold..
But she also has had some trouble with her stool. She has only had one bowel movement in these last 3 days.

Yep it happens around 6 weeks. You notice them soften and not seem so full anymore, its just your body becoming super efficiant and regulating your supply. Unfortunately it happens around the time of a possible growth spurt so it panics some women, it did me, but just keep nursing on demand and you'll be fine!

Just check and make sure it didn't have like phlenyphrine or any decongestant in it.

But yeah that's normal to feel full and then all of a sudden not when your milk regulates. That's a good thing mama   and bf babies can go days without pooping. There's like two extremes. The blow out after every feeding and the once a week pooper.
