Yes you can pump while engorged. Asher had a perfect latch until my milk came in, then I had to pump for a couple days. Sometimes you can pump some of it out to help your breast soften up, then baby should latch on.

It hurt for a few days for me, then of course engorgement hurts, and so do clogged milk ducts lol.

Is it the entire breast that hurts? The nipple? The skin?

If it's engorgement I personally don't really recommend pumping in the first couple of weeks (if you're not working, and if it's possible) simply because it makes it hard for your supply to regulate itself.

Just keep nursing. If it's the actual nipple that hurts, adjusting the latch can help, so can a few other things.

It could be the latch, but some nipple pain can be normal. When you get your little one to latch, squeeze the areola down like a hamburger and then shove as much of the areola and nipple into baby's mouth as possible. That was my trick. I need to take a picture of it so it's easier for women to understand lol. It's hard to describe, but I hope that helps.

For the scabs, try expressing milk before feedings and rub it around nipple/areola. After the feeding, express more milk and put it on your breasts, then let your nipples air dry.

You can also try things like lanolin but a lot of babies aren't big on the flavor.
