being a surrogate

1. have any of you ever done it? how was your experience?
2. have you ever considered it? what made you decide not to do it?

... i've always been SO interested in wanting to help other women experience the joy of having a child, and if they can't get that child on their own i would love to be able to help someone acheive that... to me personally it just seems so wonderful to be able to give someone the gift of a child who otherwise wouldn't be able to have one.... i was just curious if other people had any more information that i hadn't found already...

It takes a very strong woman to do that... I couldn't. I'm already head over heels for this little man, and I haven't even met him yet... Its a beautiful thing though, but not for me.

This too has been a dream of mine for several years... to know that I could help someone else in such a great way... But that was before I got pregnant with my own.. I am now having second thoughts of how hard it would be to give up a child i bore for 9 months, even though it wouldnt be mine, i'd just be carrying it. I still like to keep the thought in mind though.... someday I may still do it. But I feel like I would need to be much more financially stable on my own, even though you get provided care during it and all... I'd still feel better knowing that I could handle it on my own if need be.

i would love to do that for someone .

i'm only 21, but still i've always thought about it atleast for a few years or more... even before i got pregnant... my aunt had to adopt, they almost considered using a friend as a surrogate... so i had already learned a little bit about it when i was in my early teen years... it just seems so wonderful to be able to give a child to a loving family

Iwant to do it, but I think I want to have another kid first before I seriously start thinking about it. It's something I've always wanted to do, but my husband isn't too keen on the idea.

yeah thats when i started thinking about it... like 15 or so ish... and i saw some things in my local paper looking for surrogate mothers when i was about 20, but the requirements were you had to have already had one healthy child of your own, and had to be over 21.

I am in the paperwork process of being a surrogate.

These are the requirements in my state:
To be a Gestational Carrier, you must:

• Be between the ages of 21 and 39 years old
• Be a non-smoker who maintains a healthy lifestyle
• Be willing to abstain from alcohol and limit caffeine intake during pregnancy
• Have a healthy body mass index (height/weight ratio)
• Have a history of full-term, healthy pregnancy
• Have successfully carried at least one child who is currently in your custody
• Be financially stable and in a safe home environment
• Not be receiving state assistance

when it says to not be receiving government assistance, that counts WIC doesn't it? i mean her's will be over (available for recertification) we justhad itat the time because my husband hasn't been working and it was a help (not completely necessary after she got off formula...)

I would think so. You should def ask an agency in your area about it.

i would do it but i would be afraid i wouldn't be able to let go when the time came.

i would love to do it...
its such an amazing gift to give someone who cant bare children..
