pedialyte

posted 13th Jan
OK to give an 11 month old pedialyte sp?

Forgot to ask the Dr at the ER.

She wont eat or drink really and what she does drink she throws up within 30sec anyways.

Not peed since sometime in the night. No pee in her diaper at all since before 11am.

Yes but I'm not sure how much. We were told to give DD some when she was like 3 months. They never told us how much to give her just keep offering it to her.

Yes my son is 5 1/2 months old and a couple weeks ago the doctor told me to give him only pedialyte for 24 hours because he was sick.

theres directions on the bottle on how much to give them, i think it goes by their weight. if shes not eating/drinking and not peeing id say keep offering it to her as often as she'll take it, she seems to be dehydrated..

have you taken her to the doctor?

Ya the ER. She drinks and vomits immediately. Same as food. Not peed since some time last night. Had a real bottle yesterday around 3. A fever of 100 today a weird rash.

The ER told me SHE MAY HAVE A COLD. Then sent us home   we have been home since 4pm and she has thrown up 5 times. After a bottle after water and after 1 bite of a Gerber puff.

And a few other times.

I called back and the.Dr said no pedialyte

why did they say no pedialyte? other than the not peeing, that sounds exactly like what my son had. he straight up refused his bottle 90% of the time, and when he actually would eat he would just throw it up right away. he developed a rash, and he had a fever. only thing is he was still peeing regularly. even tylenol didnt seem to be helping him much. took him to the dr and they said it sounds like a virus, and to have him on pedialyte for 24 hours.

it made him feel so much better almost right away. he wasnt eating, because i assume the formula was too heavy for his upset tummy. the pedialyte is basically water so it was way lighter and easier for him to keep down. after a couple hours he was already noticeably better. after the 24 hours his fever was gone, he had stopped throwing up almost completely (he has a naturally sensitive stomach and since the day he was born has thrown up when he eats but his throwing up went back to what it normally is), he seemed more upbeat and happy like he usually is.

obviously pedialyte isnt some magical substance that cures sick children, and after that 24 hours im sure the virus had just passed by then but the pedialyte helped keep him hydrated since he wasnt eating and absolutely helped him to feel better until it passed.

Cause it says 2 to 10 on it.

She is not refusing to eat. She wants to eat but as soon as she takes one sip she throws up.

My DD has been sick since September and no one will help her. They keep telling me its a cold. And will go away.

If she's still puking I would give it to her.

As of 7am this morning she had a bottle and no puking yet. I didnt have any pedialyte anyways. By the time I got home nothing was open to buy anything anyways.

I'm glad she's keeping it down so far. Hopefully it was a nasty virus that passed.

Same here. Its been a battle with her. I have another post called starting to worry. I'm on my phone and can't link well don't know how. Lol

But its about her medical conditions and how she has been sick since September and every Dr is saying its just a cold and nothing more.

I'm super exhausted over this.

Yeah I saw that one. I have no knowledge of how things work over there but I would just keep bugging people until they did something about it.

Ya the pedi is supposed to be back today. I am going to lie to him and tell him that the dr told me to go to see him so he can run some upper sinus and resprartory tests on her...kwim?

They will book us in, and I will not leave till I get at least some swabs done or a referel tosomeone who can.

They open at 9:30am so in a half hour I am going to call."fingers crossed"

Its not like this everywhere, believe me. I have lived many places, but where I live now we are a small city and not enough dr's and its hurting us......

ive never seen age restrictions on pedialyte o.O plus my doctor wanted my son on it and he's only 5 1/2 months - if it were for kids 2+ im sure doctors wouldnt recommend it for infants.

im glad shes keeping things down better now. pedialyte does help with that if it gets bad with her not able to eat. also try to give her a bath before she eats, thats always helped settle my sons stomach and may help her feel well enough to keep at least some of it down/

id definitely bring it up to the pedi and make sure you tell them shes been sick since september and you just keep being told its a virus. virus's dont last this long and she needs to be checked out.

good luck.
