Rape: Then and Now.

posted 13th Jan

I made this photo. I'd like your opinion on it.
Not the way the photo was made or anything, just the phrase.
Do you think provocative clothing is asking for trouble, asking to be raped?
Or do you think people need to teach NOT to rape instead of "Don't get raped"?

Er nobody asks to get raped because if you ask to get raped then its not rape. Nothing a woman does is an excuse for a male person to rape her. Absolutely nothing. She can be butt naked on the street corner and it still doesn't give anybody a right to rape her.

I believe it should be a combination. If we taught only don't rape to people then there would still be rape because criminals are criminals and don't follow anything they're taught. We teach people not to kill, not to shoot people, not to stab and it still happens. So I believe that we should teach not to rape and also how to protect themselves from being assaulted.

I like it. And I don't think women are the ones at fault. Aside from the woman who raised her son to think a girl is asking for it. I'll blame her all I want.

true,
I know many people who were rapped or molested.
Most of the people I know were molested or rapped by someone they knew.
The only person I know of that was rapped by a stranger at gun point was wearing a baggy shirt and normal not tight jeans at a laundry mat.
it happens, no matter what someone is wearing.

Some rapest are turned on by smurfing shoes, so should we all not wear shoes?
They are rapests because they are phycos not because women are sluts.

I agree! But I also feel it shouldn't only be for women and young girls only be taught how to watch out for or not get raped but also the issue to teach not to rape as well. Will it be followed? Not always but there could also be some.. Awareness about not raping. However I'm not sure how you could teach or prevent a rapist. Sorry typing this out a million and one situations came to mind.

I don't know about then and now. A muslim woman who is fully covered wearing traditional loose, dark, wearing jilbāb and khumūr are still raped and are not asking for it.
I think there is a huge problem in teaching girls/woman not to get raped rather than focusing more on men to not rape.

Our emphasis should be on teaching our little girls to be aware of their surroundings and careful, because we are not currently raising every male out there. And our emphasis should be on teaching our little boys that it is never asked for, define it for our teenage boys so they understand that an unconscious or heavily inebriated girl cannot consent, no matter what she is wearing.

Raise a generation of boys who know what it is and know not to do it, and a generation of girls who are aware and cautious of those who have not been raised to abhor sexual violence.

I find the whole "victim blaming" thing detestable. It does not matter what you wear, where you are, or who you're hanging out with.
"No" always means no.
