Breastfeeding Question

How do I know LO is getting enough?

LO is nine months old and for the past week my breasts have been very empty-feeling. He slaps my chest when he nurses and fusses like hes frustrated. Yet, after the ordeal seems satisfied. I've been giving him three solid meals a day now and nursing in between. He does not take a cup or bottle so I can't guage what his intake is. How do I know im producing enough? Because they feel empty....

I've been chugging water and eating oatmeal, it isn't helping.

By how many wet diapers.

Your supply just may have taken a long time to regulate? I dunno ever since my supply regulated at around 3 months they've felt empty and jiggly haha, but they're not.

Also, OP, introducing solids diminishes your supply, so he really doesn't need to be eating 3 large meals a day if you're worried about your supply.

yeah, he sucks really hard though, lately and slaps me. That's why I wondered. As far as solids... I let him lead the way on introducing them and we sit down for meals together, he always wants what we have. He does well with the solids, too and it would seem silly to cut back when he will be a year old in a few months. You know?

How many should he have? He's usually changed every two hours and will be damp.

Hmm, I'm not sure if you should be worried just yet..my son got boob-slap happy at that age too, but it was just a phase...can you hear him swallowing?

I've never noticed but ill pay closer attention next time he nurses.
when I squeeze my nipple some milk comes out so there's SOMETHING in there. He nurses three times at night, has breakfast at 8, nurses at 10, has lunch at noon, nurses at 2 and again at 4, has dinner at 530 and then nurses before bed at 730... So even with solida hes nursing a lot. He just seems aggitated when he does....

My little girl is 9 months old also and also eats 3 meals a day, As long as your little one is having 4-6 wet diapers a day then they are getting enough, My little one will not take a bottle or cup either but we are trying really hard to introduce the cup for her. She eats baby food fruits and veggies and some of whatever we are having and she is doing great. She is about 25lbs and 30.5in tall  

after my period came back my boobs would feel like that every month around that time.
i got my period 9 mos PP and i nursed till she was 3 years 3 months.
it was annoying!!!

I'm sure everything is just fine.   If he's consistently been nursing that much for this long, your milk wouldn't just..go away.

I just found out im pregnant though, so im wondering if a hormonal change is screwing with it.

at least 5 or 6 a day I would think, not sure though for that age. Plus if you are pregnant you may dry up. I think my supply started to dwindle at about 14 weeks - by 18 weeks it was hell to nurse, hurt so much and I had zero milk!

I'm Hoping I can push through. I want to nurse him at least the first year and probably still at night as long as he wants.
