Help Giving a Med

posted 13th Jan
My son was recently switched to another medication, and this medication i was told tastes metalic like (from my mental health case worker, not my son, he's nonverbal).. well he took th efirst pill great yesterday, and then today he gagged on it real bad...

Now I know some ppl are going to say mix it in yogurt, applesauce, etc... but he's also very sensory and doesn't like any of the above things, or like textures. How can I make taking this med easier for him??

Maybe try having him take it with chocolate milk. It always makes taking gross pills easier for me.

I probably wouldn't change anything unless he starts fighting you about it.

how old is he? I is possible to get the same med in liquid form? That way you could mix it with something he likes. I have to do that with my LO#2. She has two meds to take every day and I mix it with a little bit of her formula, then I give her the rest of it.

he's 4. I had asked the doctor but she said it was pills. Its Buspar if anyone has experience with it. When i gave it to him yesterday he did fine, today he gagged and stuck his hand in his mouth trying to pull it out, so i pulled his hand out and shoved his sippy cup in and told him to drink. and we were able to keep it in and get it down.. but i don't want him to remember the taste and then start to refuse the medicine

It would make things so much easier thats for sure, especially when you have a sensory kid who doesn't like the stuff you normally mix it with like applesauce and pudding and yogurt and all that.. he just usually chews up the pills i give him and goes on his way but that pill was nasty... luckily that pill was stopped so he isn't on it anymore but goodness x_x
