I am getting SCARED

posted 13th Jan
of labour. I never had this thought before I hit almost 30 weeks. I never thought about how much pain I will be in and I guess now that I am almost in my 10 week count down things are becoming real.

I know it's IMPOSSIBLE to ever be "ready" for labour until you are actually IN labour, but what are some tips to prepare myself as much as possible? To prepare my SO? He has no idea what he is in for. No. smurfing. clue.

my suggestion to your SO is that while in labor you are ALWAYS right and to do what you say. if you say leave me alone or dont' touch me...he better get to steppin lol

labor isn't as bad as i thought it was going to be. sure it hurt like hell, but it was manageable. i didn't have an Epi either.

Good luck!

Labor will be the most painful experience of your life. But you WILL get through it. Try to focus on that. No matter how much it hurts it will get better and then youll have this amazing, tiny life as proof that you can survive ridiculous amounts of pain.
It helped me a little and was a great ego boost afterwards.

my mom told me, once the pain gets to a certain extent it doesn't get any worse. it just stays constant. i kept htat in mind. once it was almost time to push i was in so much pain, but i knew it wouldn't get worse...eventually it would get a lot better.

I'm hoping to go natural but I know that probably won't end up happening

I took it contraction to contraction. I concentrated, breathed through them and had a concentration spot on the ceiling. My labor was pretty quiet, I just made faces. It hurt like hell and DH got me wet cold washcloths for my face and stayed away through the contractions. Once she came out I bawled! The pain was gone and I had a tiny newborn that was MINE!

I was terrified of labor. All I could think about was how much it was gonna suck and that no one would get it. And honestly, nothing prepared me or SO. We took a class and that helped a lot though. Just learning the breathing techniques and dome calming measures helped give me, and DH, the confidence we needed to get through it. It was awesome.

My biggest fear is passing out from the pain.

So I'm assuming you would recommend a birthing class? The one we have here is almost 200$ and I'm willing to pay if it will be worth it in the end. It's a 2 day program that lasts about 10 hours

I am with you on this! I am starting to get scared now that it is getting closer! Last week I had horrible BH contractions that stopped me in my tracks and made me remember exactly how painful labor was! I went home and told my husband I am not ready she can stay in as long as she wants!!!

My labours were amazing (even induced with one) and I think a big reason for that was that amount that I prepared. Here are some things that helped me:

- hired a doula
- hired midwives
- practised relaxation, mostly using meditation CDs
- read a lot (my favourite books were Ina May's Guide to Childbirth and Childbirth without Fear, both made me feel like I could do it  ).

Best of luck!

oh, don't say that. you don't know how much pain you can take until you go into labor. you'd be surprised how much you can actually deal with. if you really want natural i really encourage that. i went as natural as i could. it was a wonderful experience. i would do it all over again if i could.

don't feel bad or anything if you can't though. going natural isn't for everybody. what i would do is go in with an open mind. think "hey, i may get an epidural, i may not." don't let anyone pressure you either way. it's your body, your baby, your decision.

I am absolutely petrified and Ive had 2 kids before this one!! But I promise you will get through it and when its done... you dont realize how good no pain feels like. Its the worst pain of your life BUT it cant be that bad or people wouldnt do it right? lol. I did one natural and one epi and already planned on getting prepped for an epi as soon as I walk in the door... especially because Im almost 4 cms already   Good luck! Mine should be here any day!!

There is so much you can do to reduce the pain without using pain medication (if that's what you want to do). The best thing I can suggest, other then hiring a doula, is to stay out of bed. My contractions hurt so much when I was lying down, but kneeling, sitting on an exercise ball, leaning over, or in the tub, they were very tolerable and sometimes, even enjoyable.

  this.
And dont worry about passing out. Ive never heard of it happening.
I was in so much pain that I literally dont remember labor. My mind blocked it out. But I didn't pass out.
