Finally making progress

posted 13th Jan
I've been struggling for months trying to get my son to PT. Well now that our supply of diapers and pullups is almost gone, we decided to let him run around in his underwear. The first day was just a half of day but he made it to the potty every time. He wet his diaper that night though.

Yesterday, he did undies for the entire day with one almost accident. Took a two and a half hour nap and stayed dry. I put him on a diaper to see if he would poop, because he hadn't gone in almost 2 full days. He pooped in it and then went pee in the potty. Last night we put him on a diaper for bed and he woke up dry!! We had an accident and he pooped in his underwear after breakfast. He said he had to go pee and he did. Then he got up, went in his room, pooped and came and sat on the potty again.

Is there anything I can do to make him comfortable with pooping on the potty? Or is it something that comes with time?

I'd give him a candy bar if he pooped on the potty! Lol that's my only advice.
But yay in the progress.

Poop comes later. Its a process. My son is PT-ing too and sometimes he will beg for a diaper to poop in. He refuses to use his pull up to poop and won't poop in his underwear. He's pooped in the potty before but he has tummy issues and gets easily constipated so we really don't want him holding poop in if he can go. Just keep going! Be patient with him. He'll get it!

Cool. Thanks. I can't argue with the progress he's making. It's the beginning of our second full day in underwear.

Isn't that awesome? When they're ready, they're ready. Monday, my son decided he had to use the potty, while we were at a friend's house watching a football game no less. Ever since, he's been peeing in the potty, on his own initiative. He woke up dry this morning and naps have been touch and go with waking up dry. I'm cautiously optimistic that this is it! We still put him in pull ups though when we are out just for accidents. But he's very good about telling us when he has to go and says "me no pee my pull up. me pee in potty" I hope this is it and I won't have 2 in diapers!

Today is his first day telling me when he has to go. Yesterday I had to tell him every time. And the last two times, he just got up and went without saying anything! I'm hoping this is it for him, too. I'd hate to have to spend money on two sets of diapers, and baby will be here soon. He told me a week ago that he knows how to use a potty and he just doesn't want to.

I would just enforce the "you're such a big boy!"kind of thought and make it a super happy experience. Because my nephew had a terrible time PT-ing. It took 3 months or more because my stepsister pushed and pushed and pushed and he wasn't ready. He'd seem ready and then he'd regress. If he's doing well for a few days and then seeming really nervous or scared about the potty, I'd back off a little, still say "you're such a big boy and big boys go in the potty" but if he needs a diaper or pull up, I'd let him wear one. He might not even use it, just want the comfort of it for that time. Mostly I'm just terrified of regression because of my nephew. lol So I'm trying to be super supportive and not iron fist   But you do whatever you feel is right. Not all kids are the same. Hope he's ready to be done so you can rest and get ready for your little girl!

Thing is, he used to go potty every day when he was in daycare, but I couldn't get him to go at home. Now that I'm on bedrest and he's not in daycare, he just decided that he didn't want to use the potty at all. So I know that he can do it. I feel like he wasn't doing it because I wasn't pushing the issue. He doesn't ask for a diaper. He's so comfortable in underwear. I put a towel under him when he took his nap and he threw it on the floor and told me that he didn't need it.

That comes with time. Savannah is now getting use to pooping on the toilet.
