I know so little about guns ....

... is this scene from my book even realistic (be warned its incredibly rough).


Anna snored. It was a fact which had meant that Josh had needed to sit by the door of many a safe house clutching his .22, waiting for the werewolves to bash their way in. Tonight he was sitting up in bed, parts of his handgun scattered across the awful floral bedspread as he carefully cleaned it. There was a surprisingly strong arm curled around his waist, sleep lax fingers brushing against the flesh beneath his shirt. Of all the ways he had imagined getting Mat into his bed, the man still being clad in his Agency standard suit hadn't factored in.

The woman herself was on the fold out sofa on the other side of the room, nothing more than a lump beneath the covers with the most horrific noises coming from it. Under normal circumstances Josh would be tempted to throw the bedside lamp at her, and with no uncertain terms tell her to shut the smurf up. However with the warm, painfully gorgeous man all but in his lap, he understandably didn't want to do anything to ruin the peace.

Just MY personal preference, but I wouldn't say .22 & then refer to it as a handgun. Where I am from a .22 is normally a shorthand reference to a rifle. So before I even got so far as to hear there were parts scattered, I was a little thrown as I had imagined him there with a rifle. If you were going to mention a hand gun I'd likely think you can just say he is clutching his revolver...as that has more romance than a clip anyway.

Its meant to be a rifle ... I need to explain that's there's now and then a bit better.

Now & then I got, you did fine in that regard. I guess as I read I thought that the gun was continuous from that past scene to now, since .22's are also handguns. LOL

You could say he is clutching his .22 bolt action & then that does define it as a rifle & sounds right....

Honestly, on second thought, I'd want a double barrel if I was waiting on werewolves busting in..but that is just me. LOL At least a semi-auto.
