Trading in for a new wedding/engagement ring?

Would you? If you didn't like the one you had, would you go and get another one?

SO says tough smurf, the ring I have is the ring I'm getting. But honestly ... It doesn't feel very me. I love that he chose it and I will wear it simply for that reason and cos it shows that we're engaged/married (in 6 weeks). But honestly, I feel like if I liked it more and felt it was more me, I would stop forgetting to put it back on after I moisturise and do the dishes and whatnot. Cos most often, I end up not wearing it.

This is the ring I have:


I like it, I think it's lovely, it just doesn't feel very "me"


And this is the ring I would DIE to have:

I LOVE the simplistic elegance of it. I can imagine having that when I'm ancient KWIM?

Yeah I don't like the first ring either...  

The second one is beautiful!

It doesn't look at all like an engagement ring to me. The second is beautiful. I like simple elegant rings.

you have to wear it everyday, you should like it. haha

Aw well hopefully he comes around to getting you the ring that you would like I understand his stand point though.. The second ring is gorgeous!   I can see why you like it aha.. I don't like colored stones as engagement/wedding rings anyways so I would totally be asking for another just like you aha.

I get that it doesn't matter what they look like, I would wear a piece of barbed wire if that's what SO proposed to me with but I kinda feel like ... He got to pick out his ring. Why do I have to wear one I don't like? I'm the one looking at it everyday

And you have to wear it, so you should be able to like it!

Before I saw your ring I was prepared to say something along the lines of "No, your ring is special because it's what sealed his commitment to you." And then I saw that it was green and gold and looked nothing like an engagement ring.

That being said, I think the one you picked out is a little outrageous.

how are you even going to add a wedding band to the engagement ring?

If I didn't love love LOVE my rings I would upgrade them. I picked the engagement ring dh picked the wedding band. I love them both. But if I wasn't in love with them I would have told him that and got a new one later. Thankfully the ring I picked was the ring he had gone in and thought I would before he brought me in to pick it because he wanted to be sure. Mine is emerald cut..... Like a rectangle. Not a square!

I hated my ring at first. Love it now. I'll never trade it. We've been married 7 years and people ask if i plan to "upgrade" when we get to 10...no way! He can just buy me earrings to match  

My only question about your ring: how are you going to wear a band with it?
That's the only issue I'd have with any ring DH chose.

I'll admit, the ring you have now kinda strikes me as something an older woman would like --- or perhaps a mother's ring, but not as an engagement ring.

But, the second one you posted is really ostentatious. There is nothing "simple" about it.

I can't. No band will fit. Would have to get one made and that would be up in the thousands.

I like the second one better as well. And i know what you are saying. DH bought my first ring when i was 16. So it wasnt much, i upgraded it, nothing against him just wanted it to look like a wedding ring when the bands were added. I plan on upgrading again due to design errors. DH gave up and wants his upgraded too...hehe

I know the second one is a bit OTT - I meant to add it was the shape I wanted, not the ridiculous amount of diamonds all over the band and whatnot that I wanted.
