Severe Multiple Food Allergies (dairy & soy)

posted 12th Jan
My daughter is going on 16 months old, and has severe food allergies to dairy and soy. I am having a bit of a hard time finding things that she can eat with us (she gets upset when we don't eat and I won't eat in front of her if she can't have it, because she will want some). Every time I go to the store and look for anything new she can eat, it's like a new heartbreak all over the second I see "dairy" or "soy" listed in the ingredients or contamination...

Are there any other mamas on here who have D&S free kids, who would be willing to help me through this? I am hoping she will outgrow it but with her dad's history of food allergies it's not likely she will...

Try shopping in the gluten free /organic section

My boys were the same way and also could having wheat or eggs.

We did a lot of rice and potato based dinners, so many recipes for that.

It's pretty easy to avoid soy as long as you cook from scratch.
Dairy is a bit of a pain but same goes for it.

What type of meals are you looking for?

That is usually where we head first. We have had a little bit more luck lately, but still not too much in our area. :/

Oh I'm sorry! That has to be difficult..

What exactly are rice or potato based meals? Sorry, I'm kinda new to all of this, we only found out about her allergies a few months ago...

I am really looking for any meals that don't require too much time (unless they can be prepared in advanced, and then cooked) or don't have "out there" ingredients. Just simple yet yummy stuff. She is kind of a picky eater. :/

lame we are gluten and dairy free that part of the store is my savior lol

Go back to basics. You can sub or make your own things as replacements. Cheese is a harder one but not all vegan cheese has soy.

We make most of our things. I buy the basics and make our own chicken nuggets, crackers, some pastas etc.

Lots of meats with gravies, served over rice or potatoes.
Rice casseroles, though many have cheese so it's kinda hard to find good ones. Jambalya is great though.

Let me see if I can find some links to allergy blogs.

Mashed potatoes, chicken nuggets, hamburgers ect Grilled chicken and rice,

You are going to have to make meals from scratch and make them ahead of time. There aren't "premade" meals that are going to be favorable for her. Plus, those aren't healthy anyway.

I want to so bad. My problem with it is I am a horrible cook... lol I tend to mess up even the simplest of things, and I have no clue where to even begin with making things home made. I do make her chicken nuggets and things like that, but I found a soy free dairy free veggie cracker that we crush and use for breading, she loves them. I'm just lost on things I can actually make for her without it being confusing or requiring a lot of time or skill :/

Guess now is the perfect time to learn a new skill   Don't stress. Cooking is really easy. You don't have to be a gormet cook to satisfy the tummies in your family!
