Okay or not okay? (alcoholic question)

Okay, say you knew an alcoholic. Someone who can't admit they're an alcoholic. One who stops, then starts, then stops.... but they always wind up slowly drinking again until they're back to being drunk all the time. If this person just screwed up royally while drunk and swore they'd quit drinking (again...) and has only been sober 2 weeks... Would it be okay for them to go buy O'Douls (sp?) or some other non-alcoholic beer? Or do you think this is just starting on the path to drinking again?

I say it is not ok but, they have to make that decision on their own. Nothing you can do. Believe me, been there with an ex and it is their fight.

I'm going to go with no on that one.

It's not really okay IMO. The temptation to go back to drinking after only 2 weeks of sobriety and drinking non alcoholic beers is so great. I just wouldn't think it would be ok to have that temptation. Not just yet.

i think non-alcoholic beer is a great choice.

my dad was sober for years just drinking o'douls. he's not an alcoholic, but he's a pretty heavy social drinker.

for an alcoholic i wouldnt do it -- try to get their addictive personality busy with something healthy.

I would suggest having any type of alcohol or make-shift alcohol near them. It's going to trigger their senses which is going to make sobriety harder.

nope. I used to work at a store that was also part of a recovery program (welcome home) and we did not carry alcoholic beer because it's just one big temptation staring them in the face. I myself know that I have a problem with alcohol and I couldn't buy a non alcoholic beer. Id want the real thing after

NON alcoholic beverages are okay it gives the flavor without the effects and it is often recommended to do that instead...it is like drinking soda or juice , an alcoholic beverage is bad, but NON ALCOHOLIC beverages contain no alcohol and many people I know who have had drinking problems have found comfort in just being able to have the taste without the effect. it is a safe and happy alternative for all those involved honestly and I have been there with family and friends...
