used crib?

posted 12th Jan
Ok so my mom wants me to use MY old crib which is like 18 years old. Not to mention the stuff ive read about drop side cribs. Well she made this HUGE deal about it and has scared everyone around me to even help me buy a crib (that's fine ill buy my own) but now when im looking online on CL I find this cute decent looking one that isnt too expensive & she is freaking out telling me hpw dirty and nasty I am dpr buying a used crib. I mean I would buy a new mattress of cpurse. Am I not seeing her logic in this? It looks REALLY nice.

All drop sides have been recalled and unless they have been fixed then they arent safe to use at all. I have no issues with a used crib just make sure it hasnt been recalled at all.

Follow your heart! I used a 12 year old drop side crib with my first four years ago and I hated it and wished I had bought new the whole time. I just went out and bought a brand new cherry wood crib and I'm so happy with it! I would buy off Craigslist. In my area there are ones that are practically brand new! Just wipe it down

It can be cleaned. The "dirtiest" part would be the mattress.

I ordered my sons convertible crib of the Walmart website, it had the mattress included for under $200. I definitely would not do the drop side.

Yeah there is no chance your old crib still passes current safety standards, ESPECIALLY if its a drop side. All of them have been recalled and they aren't made anymore for a reason.

Inwould go with the used one, disinfect the shot out of it, and buy a new matress. Just make sure before you buy it to check the manufacturer website to be sure it hasn't been recalled, baby stuff gets recalled all the time.

Tell her drop side cribs are not safe at all. Show her articles about them being recalled. Let her know you appreciate the gesture but you want some thing safer.

I keep telling her this and the only reply I get is "youre alive and fine" I love my mom but she is getting on my last nerve about this. Loke im seriously thinking about hiding parts of my old crib so it cant be put together.

I would say if u find a nice used crib go for it... another idea is getting a used one and sanding it down and restaining it.... I did one for a friend and loved it... all my dressers for my kids are ones I found at thrift stores.. I sanded them down and restained them and they look brand new!!! and the drop side are recalled but they are not banned they will give you a bracket to keep it from going down... you could always get the bracket from a hardware store and make it secure yourself... I would use the old crib since they grow out of it so quick and put the money you were going to use for the new crib and put it towards a toddler bed
