Fever for 4 days...

posted 12th Jan
My 2 year old has been sick for about 5-6 days now and I took her to the doctor Thursday and they gave her an antibiotic for a double ear infection. She has been taking that for 3 days and Motrin every 8 hours. Obviously when she takes the Motrin her fever goes away, but right at about the 8 hour mark her fever spikes back up to about 100.9 to 101.8. She is so miserable and hot and I don't know what else to do at this point. She is not eating and barely drinking. She is fine when her fever goes down, playing, etc.

I am worried that her fever is lasting too long...

By sue pressing the fever, you're prolonging it. The fever is her body fighting the infection. Let the fever run its course. As long as it doesn't spike suddenly, it's okay.

Let her rest and keep her hydrated!

I find that if I treat a fever- The illlness or fever tend to last longer. Especially a low fever like you were describing. Fevers are our body's defense against bacteria. By killing the fever you are killing the body's only way to fight the illness. We usually do not treat a fever unless it goes over 103. Skin to skin, And increased fluids Can help them feel better.

I would ask first but see if you are allowed to stagger motrin and tylenol etc. I was allowed to do it with my son since he gets them often and he is much younger but ask first cause sometimes motrin for children is a no no etc. but there should be a way for you to stagger it
I know it seems a long time but if that baby has a fever still like that after a week then yes go back in that infection may have transferred to somewhere else it did happen to my boy it sucked...Try a cool bath right at the end of when her meds wear off ...a humidifier helps...vicks even tho it wont help the infection it helps the symptoms ....a cold pack on the ears if they are red and bothersom helps with the head ache she might have too and a cold rag on her forehead
