How does anyone deal with a child with odd? I'm just at my wits end with him and don't know what else to do...anyone else have a child with obsessive defiance disorder? What did you do medically, clinically or just emotionally

It basically means they are just brats..it where they have to defy, especially authoritative figures. My sin caught my house on fire in June, and his behavior is just awful..I have tried everything..the more I am consistant, the worse he gets

smurf! that sounds like literally about the toughest situation i can think of. how old is he? does he have to go to any kind of therapy for that? again, i'm sorry if i sound ignorant, but therapy and some kind of medication is what would have happened when i was younger with any kind of behavioral problems. are doctors giving you any kind of advice?

No they haven't even officially labeled him yet. He just is so hard to handle and honestly makes me feel like
I'm failing at parenthood. I know he is still my sweet little boy somewhere in there, but its so hard to see most days. I really want him in therapy and possibly medication..especially since I have a baby otw..I worry that everything I tell him not to do with baby he will do and hurt it ..he almost killed my youngest one with the house fire, I'm worried that its gotten beyond out of control..its to the point to where even leaving out a knife on the steak knife block is dangerous.

Yes they are in no hurry, he has an appointment on the 29th and they said they will see about referring him then

My son has ADD and I went to his pediatrician and it took us a few months to get him diagnosed. I haven't medicated him yet. We had him in therapy for almost 2 years and that was a big help for all of us. We feel that as long as it's not affecting him too much and he keeps good grades we won't medicate him. As of yesterday my son still is on the honor roll and hasn't had a referral or detention this school year. So we don't feel it's necessary. But if you feel your son needs help right away maybe take him to a walk in clinic that can speed up his diagnosis. The way you described him I agree that he has ODD. I'm currently in child psychology and have dealt with kids with many different diagnosis. Kids with certain disorders can be difficult but seeing them improve is always rewarding. A little boy I know is on Magnesium treatment for his ODD and they changed his diet and it's helping. They don't allow him to have a lot of carbs and sugary foods and put him on a routine and it seems to have helped a bit. Good luck.

Thankyou..I don't believe in medicating everything a child has..but as for him he is failing..I have a conference with his teacher about holding him back already

Oh no. Well Jordan got held back in Kindergarten due to his inability to pay attention. He didn't have bad grades, she and the principal didn't think he was "mature" enough for 1st grade. So we agreed to hold him back. Now he is doing wonderfully in school. Good luck.
