Stop shopping at TARGET? -poll-

posted 12th Jan
So, txting a friend earlier, said we were probably going to target later and she asked if i heard about everything going on with our local (Silverdale) target.

Seeing as i don't use FB or anything..i hadn't.
looked it up on our newspapers site and got some insight.
(via the comments)
http://www.kitsapsun.com/news/2013/jan/11/banner-honors-sailor-killed-in-afghanistan/

She also linked me to what was going on via Target's FB
I couldn't see much but got the idea
http://www.facebook.com/target
(Read the "recent posts by others on Target")

Apparently it started locally and has gained nation-wide attention.
We're a military town and the husband of a woman had been killed in action and they were putting a banner up on a street pole for him and they were hosting a 'ceremony' on the corner from 10:30-11. So, a half hour.

The woman had informed target as a courtesy weeks before (because the corner is city property) but saying they were going to be using part of their parking lot for additional parking (it's a massive parking lot)

They informed her it was absolutely not allowed, (the parking)
so when they did it anyways, two employees approached them and 'rudely' insisted they moved.

A sheriff who was attending the ceremony came and told the target people that they were not breaking any laws and the ceremony went on.

Now people are extremely upset with target's actions on this, seeing as they couldn't accommodate a family honoring a soldier killed in action for 30 minutes- saying they are done shopping at target.
At least til there's an apology/statement about it.

So my question is, if you knew about this story-- would you no longer shop there either?

i think thats pretty dam rude of them! but if it was the only place to shop i probably woudlnt stop shopping there. If something like that happened where i live id have to continue to shop at a certain place cause its a small town and there isnt much options.

Personally, I wouldn't go there. I think that's absolutely ridiculous. They weren't hosting something inside the store. They weren't causing a public disturbance. And it's for a soldier. For a hero killed in action.

I don't usually boycott places because of their priciples, but I think I would be shopping elsewhere until they issued some sort of statement about it.

I personally wouldn't. Not necessarily about what happened but just because I'd rather go to Wal Mart or something lol. There are so many other stores like Target.

No, I love Target. I shop there for my babies clothes, I couldn't give a crap what a few individual employees do. Even if they had personally done it to me I would still shop there.

You might be missing the point of the story then...

Apparently a ton of people nation-wide have commented on target's page and target has addressed other's concerns but not the ones about the military family.
I'm guessing they're not wanting to just spout off any old explanation and hopefully there would be one shortly.

Wait.
So this lady told Target they were going to have to give up some of their parking lot (that is owned by the company) for parking?

I'd stop shopping at that target maybe. But not all of them.

She informed them that they intended to use the back part of the parking lot (which is always empty anyways). And though it was empty they insisted they move because it was 'against policy'. However, the sheriff told them no laws were being broken and they did not have to move.

People are upset with Target's inability to accommodate honoring a military family for a half an hour in a military town.

Because if that's what happened, then SHE'S in the wrong. It would be incredibly rude to tell Target that they're using it instead of asking. But even if they had asked and Target said no, that's their decision.

It's Target's property. Most parking lots even say that the parking lot is for use of customers only.

Target has always been like that. They're very "Switzerland" they don't get involved with military and politics. You can't solicate there. Meh, it's their shtick.
