Schizophrenia

posted 12th Jan

As I was watching this, something popped in my mind: Do you think schizophrenia children should be told that their visions and hallucinations aren't true? And also, do you think it's good or bad for them to be surrounded by friends who have the same illness and talk about their own imaginary worlds, too?

Depends on what you mean by "told that they aren't true".

Should they be told that they're just making smurf up and be ignored? No. But I think they should be informed as much as possible about the illness that they're experiencing, and being around other people struggling with the same issues could be helpful, to some. It really just depends on the child, though, and what type of schizophrenia.

I don't think it matters if you tell them they are true or not. It's real to THEM so they are going to believe it.

For the second question, I really don't know.

I was told that my hallucinations weren't real. Then they got worse and more frequent and my grandmother took me to a doctor. But it took years for anyone to acknowledge me when I told them about my hallucinations.

I think, if you tell them, they won't believe you anyway because they can see and hear them.

I also feel, in more serious cases, the children arent very interested in the reality of anything else. They think what they see is reality. If some other child told them that there is a million frogs screaming around them, they wouldnt understand it because they don't see it.

We had to watch this video is psychology. It's pretty cool....I had to post it above the text or it won't show my text.
