Holistic vs. medical

posted 12th Jan
Now I'm totally for natural and holistic living. I believe that eating nutritious foods throughout the day will in turn keep you and our family out of the waiting rooms of hospitals and dr's offices. Because of this lifestyle we stay out of those places. I don't feel the urge when the medical community and the news is making it out that if you don't get the flu shot you will die. Just like when H1N1 came around again. I feel confident enough in what I'm doing with my families diet and health that we don't have to worry about such crap happening to us.

I know if we had compromised immune systems we would be more scared but we don't we never get sick.

What is everyone thoughts and opinions on this matter?

We as a society really need to take our health into our own hands and not rely completely on medical and immunizations to maybe keep us healthy.

Eating healthy can very well keep you from getting sick. It really depends on a persons personal preferences as to if they get a flu shot or not. My program in school makes me get my immunizations or I am not able to attend my clinicals. Which is fine with me because they have never had a terrible effect on me. I would also get one regardless because my mother has cancer and her immune system is compromised, and will become further compromised as she begins chemotherapy treatments. I am not going to depend on healthy eating to keep my mother from possibly becoming infected due to myself or my daughter, and ending up in the hospital.

It is wonderful that it works for you and your family though.

Well I really believe you are what you eat. If you eat smurf your body turns to it. It you treat it with healthy foods, your body is stronger. I also think exercise is really important, no matter how tiered you are you need it!

I am a however a firm believer in modern medicine.

I think we do still need Doctors, we as a society can not fix everything holistically. For example, my Dad's kidneys failed, he had to have emergency surgery or else he would of died. No one knew it was his kidneys until the doctors did tests. I also believe that not everything needs a doctor either. I've known some parents who go into ER for a cold.

As far as vaccinations, we selectively vaccinate. We believe some are necessary such as polio and small pox to help make symptoms not too severe for a young infant to handle. Some are not that necessary such as newborn eye drops as I don't have an STD. As far as the flu shot goes we skip that one too because most likely the strain that is being vaccinated for is not the same strain that is being spread around currently.

I believe in a balance of both. I think if we take careof ourselves... we'd have a better immune system. BUT>. americas in general are lazy. THey dont' work out, and eat crap. Therefore, they have smurffy immune systems. Nothing wrong with medicine when it's necessary.

I'm a nurse.. and still rarely one to run to the doctor everytime someone gets a sniffle. It's my last resort when upping vitamins and healthy living aren't enough

Yes you do still need Dr's in cases like that. I should of stated that in my post. I'm not against going medical if need be it is just doing the preventable measures of keeping my family healthy. If something happens and we need the Dr we are there we are just not there for you common cold or flu. I don't believe filling up emergency rooms and such with something like that which could of been prevented if you the person had a healthy diet to begin with.

But immuniazation are not my friend cause we have had some bad reactions to them.

I like to live a life of 80% good and and 20% bad. You aren't going to get away from all the junk in our lives. Really we are only human but it is the ones that refuse to eat anything healthy they are the ones that are sitting in the waiting rooms. I choose to not be one of them.

I haven't always been like this but as I have gotten older and done research and started on a healthier lifestyle I noticed the change in my body.

You do still need Dr's in some sense just not for common colds and when everything else fails that you did at home and it didn't work. But i find most of the time it does work. I haven't been on a antibiotic myself for 2 years.

That is basically how we are too. We actually have yet to be at the ER as most things can be dealt with at home. I honestly eat terrible though, I feed my husband and kid healthy food.I'm an emotional eater, I always grab the bad stuff when stressed.

Ya I'm the same. I wish I wasn't a emotional eater. I know it is bad for me but still end up eating it. I have had to stop buying it just so I don't eat it.

But for the most part I like to make my smoothies and eat fruits and some vegetables. Not a big vegetable eater. But when stress hits that's when I lose it.

Oh well at least I know I can still stay out of the DR's office because I tend to eat healthier more.
