Sigh...

I have a daughter that is 13, turning 14 in September. She is a very good kid, good morals, good head on her shoulders ect. She came to me last night and asked if she could go to a movie with a boy in her class. I would be taking them, and picking them up obviously. What are your thoughts??? Do you think she is too young yet for this? Don't be harsh, I am trying to get used to the fact that she isn't a baby anymore. Lol. I tend to be a bit over protective, but I don't want to be unreasonable! Tia.

I'd let her go.

If you are really worried over it, maybe you could go see the same movie and sit across the theater?

Depends on the movie but I'd most likely let her go.

It would be a movie appropriate for thier age. Me going in the movie with them would really embarrass her, and I don't want to do that. I'm just a newbie at having a teenager, Lol. Seems like yesterday she was a toddler.

Personally, I would suggest having them invite another friend or two along, so it doesn't seem like a one on one "date" at that age.

DD will not be going on a 1 on 1 date until she is 16. I remember what goes on in movie theaters.

It makes me cry. Lol. It is honestly a very hard transition for a parent. They def grow up before you are ready for them to. When she turned 13 I cried for 2 days. I can't explain it, haha. It was just hard!!! But she is a very good kid, and I know she wouldn't do anything inappropriate, it's just me that needs time to adjust.

I would say that as you are dropping off and collecting them it is fine, 13/14 is a good age for that kind of innocent 'dating' i would be worried that saying no might push her to go off and do it anyway IYKWIM?

I would let her go or if you're really uncomfortable with it ask her if she can have some other friends come as well.

I understand what you are saying Addi's mama, but if you knew my daughter, she would NEVER do that right now. Hahah. I'm really not concerned with that aspect of it. Some kids her age definitely would, and have, but my kid is still very innocent. Maybe if a few others go, it would be better. I'll have to talk to her.

I think with friends would be better. Its not that I wouldn't trust my child but we have talked about our rules and one was no one on one dating until at least 16. And then at 16 we will evaluate whether or not we think they can handle it.

Ya, that's a good idea, and I'm sure she would be fine with that. It blows my mind what some of the girls her age have already done. We always talk very openly about stuff, and she is usually very honest about stuff, which I'm thankful for. But with regards to her making out with a boy, she was like no mom just no- I would NOT do that, I'm too young. LOL. I'm proud of the respect that she has for herself!

I am not saying she would. I am more thinking about the boy and pressure.
