carseat weight and height question

posted 12th Jan
DD has a convertible car seat. I cant think of which one (it was at target).. but its a 5 point harness, then a high back booster, then a booster....

she currently uses the 5 point harness, but when can i safely move her to a high back booster with a seat belt?

shes 38 pounds and like 42 inches?

Could you look at the number on the seat and find the weight requirements online?

Its always 40lbs and the height I am unsure of. I just now my dd is 41 inches and they said that her heigh was too small to move to a high back booster, even if she weight 40lbs, which she is only 28lbs.

4 and 40 is the rule of thumb. Are you not wanting to keep her harnessed for some reason?

Your state should have a law guideline as well. Most are 4yrs old AND 40lbs, seat will tell you height... I think maybe 40inches? You wanna make sure she is MATURE enough to sit properly in a high back booster also. Not move the seat belt, not slouch, not lean foward, ect

It's normally a 4 year AND 40 lbs rule but not every state follows this rule . My daughter is in a graco nautilus that is a harnessed then can transition to a high back booster then finally a no back booster. My oldest is going to be five next month and is 42 inches tall and will remain harnessed till she out grows the feature. The graco nautilus goes to 18 inches from the seat to the top slot . I measured my daughter not to long ago ( you sit them on the floor next to a wall then measure from the floor to the top of the shoulders) and she was 15 1/2 inches so she has a few years to go. Most car seat tech agree that children under age 7-8 still have a hard time sitting in the seats properly. One thing to remember every step up in a car seat weather it's from rear facing to forward to booster to no back booster is a down grade in safety .

That might help. We have a cheepo for our daughter too and it's not very comfy that might be why her butt hurts. She only sits in that seat when she rides with her grandparents since its not good for long hauls .
