Could you call your insurance company and ask?
Depending on what exactly his special needs are they may not cover it..

My son is special needs.

Call your ins company and ask them about their coverage for it. That would be the only reliable way of finding out what they cover and what it takes to qualify.

My sisters son (my nephew) can not talk- but does use some sign language. They said at first that he had mosaic downsyndrom, but it's been ruled that he's just a product of a smurffy BM who did drugs while he was in utero. He can't even eat- he has a feeding tube and everything. They still can get perscription diapers for him. =(

Talk to your doctor. I know some people that have been able to get them covered. I also know some that couldn't. I hope you can GL!

Depending on insurance you should be able to now. Some kids in my class have been getting them since pre-k through insurance.

Thank you we are in the same state, so that's helpful. I don't know if they will be approved or not, but if he's met the age requirement no harm in trying.

My Son was able to get his at 3 but because of my insurance conflict becasue of exhusband it wasn't until 3.5. We go through ActiveStyle. They are really great.

This may not be helpful or apply but before you see his pedi you should call your insurance first. We have had 2 insurances in 2 states cover a portion of our formula. 1 did it through our prescription ins and the other was through medical as medical supplies.
1 state did it through any pharmacy and the other through a medical supplies pharmacy. Our pedi was no help except writing the Rx. So I suggest calling ins and speaking to multiple people and find out what you need and need to do.
Since things like that aren't common, a lot of pedis may not know and on top of that they may not know about your insurance. Good Luck OP
