Is this weird?

posted 12th Jan
A friend of mine has a little boy who just turned 3 this month. They've been working on potty training for a while now and he pees in the potty with no problem. He does this thing though, neither of us knew if it was 'normal' or 'weird' or something to be worried about, since they only have him part time (split custody).

He'll be playing in his room by himself, take his diaper off and get under the covers in his bed and pee there.

Is this normal? What can she do to stop it from happening?

If he goes pee on the potty consistently I would take the diaper away and just do trainer underwear or normal underwear. And maybe encourage him to play in the public room so he can have assistance to go potty without having the chance to go in the bed and pee. If he's solo it might be comforting to pee in his bed like at night, I don't think it's weird. He's only 3.

They're home is set up to where the kids room has 2 doors that are always open, one that opens right into the living room and another down by the laundry room. She's always near, he can and he will come find her when he needs to go most of the time.. Just every now and then he'll go in his bed. It just started recently, too.

I'll talk with her about maybe trying some trainer diapers or underwear for him, maybe that would help.

I would still close the room off until he's completely trained. Just because having the bed no accessible will break that habit/trend and then she can keep a better eye on him. Just until he's going on the potty 100% on the toilet during the day. It sounds like he's real close.
