Too old for this?

My 7 year old is absolutely TERRIFIED of having anyone rinse shampoo out of his hair. I struggle to get him to lay down for long enough for me to rinse it out, and he refuses to let me rinse it out with a cup. I've never gotten water in his eyes, but he's still terrified. How should I go about breaking him of this habit? He seems a little old to have this fear.

i remember being scared of that when i was younger. my mom always had us lay down on the counter, while she washed our heads in the sink, and meanwhile we covered our faces with a warm washcloth. it always worked for us growing up. you might try that.

ask him if he wants to use the cup himself. Maybe hes just scared of the soap.

try putting a wash cloth over his eyes let him hold it and tell him if you hold still and hold the rag it wont get in your eyes but i think at that age i think a but if tough love is needed maybe talk to he to see if its something else thats really bothering him

Maybe teach him to take showers? Let him do it on his own.
I was taking showers by that age.

I asked him why, and he said "Just because, Mommy". I'll try the washcloth thing, though. I'm just so tired of struggling with him over this.

Let him try a shower.. I showed and took baths alone at that age.

IMO he seems a little old to have you bathing him. However you could try goggles. Seriously, myalmost 3year old was scared to death of water in his eyes period so it was hell at bath time. I just got him a pair of swim goggles and everything is fine now. Other then that showers are a good idea.

My son is 6 andhas been taking showers for several years now (I still bathe him, butin the shower), but I got him used to it by telling him its like running through the sprinkler... and after he thought of it like that he stopped being worried about the water on his face.

has he ever done swimming lessons? Is he araid of the water in genera?
Maybe the problem is he doesnt like the feeling that water 'could' cover his face? If so swimming lessons could help him out with this feer.
I do not see anything wrong with you washing his hair a t7. Kids have a hard time getting everywhere and rinsing it out properly. I think the goggles are a good idea as well though.
