re: Accidental black eye

posted 11th Jan
My niece tripped over my brother-in-law's kayak oar and busted her face up pretty bad (she was four at the time), and told anyone who would listen that her dad did it to her.

My son runs and jumps all over the place, and gets bumps, bruises, and scratches all over. He has accidentally given me two black eyes within six months of each other. Kids are nuts!

But if that child were to continue have any bruising and displayed any signs of abuse, I would certainly stick my nose into it. However, for now I'd assume that it was most likely the cause of an accident.

My mom accidentaly gave my dd a black eye a few years ago...lol

And the way she told it, it sounded horrible, but really it wasnt. My was doing something with her and she poked her in the eye, and the whole eye turned black and purple.

My niece used to say her mom threw her into the wall. No matter how bad of a mother I think my SIL was when the moment was there I KNOW she didn't do that. And I know I've turned around and accidentally smacked kids in the face before because they were too close. It can happen.

I forgot about that too. Between DD and the cat, somebody is always under my feet. I've turned around and stepped on DD or have knocked her in the face many times.

I'm glad it probably isn't something to worry about.

My 3 yr old gave me a black eye right after the birth of my 2nd. I bent over to pick him up & he went to jump up into my hands & he jumped his forehead straight into my cheekbone. It was a shiner too. I was shocked it looked as bad as it did. I got a lot of funny looks & that whole "sureeee...." kind of look when I'd tell people how it happened. There seems to be some weird cultural stigma specific to black eyes. I've been hurt LOTS of times, never has anyone acted suspicious about any of my other injuries.

I used to accidentally catch Lily by the elbow, hand, foot, etc... at that age. Kid was always near my extremities, lol.

But I accidentally gave Lily a bad, bad scratch (was much more than a scratch) when she was a baby. Her fathers family thought I did it to hurt her.. kid still has a scar from it. Kids sometimes get hurt by us but we dont mean to. If there is more bruises in the future... stay on the lookout. This time... Id just be cautious.

I have a 6 and a half year old and a 5 year old.. do you know how often kids at that age kick and scratch each other? I get crazy looks when there is a bruise or scratch on one of their faces. one time when my oldest was a little younger he ran into a tail gate because he tried to make a beline past his dad.. people sitting near me at the er kept whispering and looking at us and shaking their head. yeah things happen. I personally wouldnt be too concerned unless the kid really seemed scared or nervous of something.
