Your cousin sounds like a nasty woman. What she has said is absolutely not true. I'm on my first pregnancy, and I have 13 days to go before I hit my 40 weeks. My baby boy has been healthy throughout the entire pregnancy, with an amazingly strong heartbeat, and I didn't even know about my pregnancy until I was around 10 weeks. Once you hit 12 weeks your chances of a miscarriage reduces a lot. Like others have said, just keep away from her, because she seems like she'd just add a lot of unneeded and unwanted stress. Take care OP.

I can understand your fear. This is my first pregnancy too and I was worried during the first weeks since there were slight complications. Guess what? I'm in week 22 now and my little girl is doing great. Claiming that the first pregnancy always ends up in miscarriage is - excuse my language - utter bullsmurf. Miscarriages in the first trimester happen because something goes wrong with the fetal development, like if the heart doesn't start to beat. Sometimes they happen because the fertilized egg fails to nest in the uterus, and then most women think it is just a late period. Miscarriages do NOT happen because your body does a malicious count and decides to abort the child because it is the first one. At its best, your cousin is completely uninformed, at its worst she is being willingly spiteful. Don't stress yourself and if she tries to stress you, keep her out of your life for a while. Your baby is almost at 12 weeks, the chances for miscarriage are dropping with every day now!

That is the stupidest thing I've ever heard.

I'm 24 & I've never had a miscarriage. I've had 3 pregnancies... so far 2 & a half healthy babies. lol.

This.

My first pregnancy was perfect, then I had 3 miscarriages. It seems to be more common to lose subsequent pregnancies. Chick is definitely an idiot.

Sadly not hon a missed miscarriage - MMC is when the baby (at ANY stage before 24wks) has passed away but it is not discovered until a scan or for some time. My last MC was an MMC - the baby died at 8w5d and i started to cramp and passed the plug at 11w5d,
OP clearly you can see your cousin is a knob and i hope you can relax and start to enjoy your pregnancy now xxx

Here a miscarriage is classed as one that is ended at less than 20 weeks. After 20 weeks it's a stillborn.

I wish it were here, two friends of mine have lost at 22 and 23 weeks and they were classed as miscarriages and i don't know how but it makes it seem trivial somehow, i have had 6 MCs at different stages and i know a loss is a loss but so late seems so much worse I think?

Yeah the early losses and my 2nd trimester loss don't even compare.

I understand. My two losses are on a completely different level. But a loss is a loss. I don't trivialize someone else's loss. But mine were different in how I grieved them.

Not true if it was then thee would be a lot less people in the world. But my first pregnancy did end in a missed miscarriage. Most traumatic thing I've ever experienced. I'd never say that to anyone. You will be just fine and yes your chances went down with hearing the hb.
