hi ladies, my 1 week old son has not pooped his diaper for 24 hrs. now. should i call his pediatrician? or is there anything i can do to help him. fyi, i am mix feeding him,i wanted to exclusively breast feed but im just not making enough so we are using formula for supplement.

It's fine.

As long as he isn't acting in pain, he can go for days without pooping

And just as an aside, if you keep mixing formula in, you'll likely lose your BM supply. Why not just nurse the baby more? (Unless there is another medical reason or something for not making enough)

With breastfeeding a lot of moms don't even get their milk until days 7 to 10. So it's very early to say you aren't producing enough.

Have you read about what formula does to the gut re altering the bacteria, the affects on the immune system and the risks? If so ignore me. But if not, before you keep giving it it may be worth a little reading so you don't regret your decisions later.

Regards pooping it can vary a lot. My ebf son went almost every feed the first 8 weeks or something, others go a week inbetween.

thanks! im just really worried, he is sleeping well and not acting like he is in pain and he is passing gas so i guess he is ok.i hope he'll poop soon though.

And yes,i have tried to breastfeed him more often but he acts like he is always hungry, i tried ebf my other 2 children and failed, im trying really hard to not fail this time and im already feeling bad bacause i know breast milk is the best for him.

If he's acting hungry again, nurse again. Supplementing will kill your supply.

Just keep nursing!!!

And some babies poo 10x a day, others once a week or so. Mix feeding and formula feeding can upset the balance and change poop habits significantly.

my daughter is a week old to and im mix feeding also and they said not 2 worry about it unless they go over 3 day without pooping

ok im relieved! he just pooped...like a lot! lol
