How many months is a pregnancy?

Over christmas i had a (child-less) family member try to 'argue' (not a REAL "ahhhh" argument, but when people have two opposing views) that i was wrong about how long a pregnancy is.

I said that my last two pregnancies i had the kiddos at 37 weeks so i didn't make it the full 9 months

And she told me that i did make it the full 9 months, because 9x4= 36

I didn't know how to explain it-- so i just.. yeah.
Haha, but, i mean-- how does all that work? She's convinced i went like..past due by going 37 weeks..(even though my first was the product of putting off pre-term labor)

the 9x4 rule only works if every month was 28 days long.

She's wrong. Not all months have 4 weeks, or a month would always be only 28 days.

First off, there aren'y 4 weeks in a month

and secondly, you are pregnant for 9 FULL months. You give birth at the beginning of the 10th month

I hate people like that though... that think 37 weeks is NOW OR NEVER TIME hahaha

It's 9, but I always tell people it's 10. It makes more sense when you don't feel like doing real math/thought

Well considering technically there are 4.3 weeks in a month you did not but still that wouldn't even make it to 40 weeks unless you take out the 2 weeks before you ovulated then a pregnancy is by all means 9 months.

You made it to term, b/c that's 37 weeks, but you didn't make it "full" term, which is 40. Now the month thing, it really varies with each person and how they want to look at it, you can count out the actually months and get 9, or you can count 4 weeks as a month and get 10, all depends on the person.

who the smurf cares the baby comes when it wants to come smurf it. Who gives a smurf 9 or 10 months as long as is not sooner than that.

a lot of people on my FB treat it that way... bitching at 36 weeks that they aren't in labor and the fact that there are actual smurfing doctors that induce at 37 weeks just blow my smurfing mind.
