Toddler hates new bed..

posted 11th Jan
anyone else have a problem switching their toddlers from a crib to a toddler bed? She was sleeping fine in the crib, but she's almost 27 months old so I figured we should start trying to transition her. We turned her crib into a daybed and a guardrail on the side. Tried it out today at naptime and she flipped out. Did not like it one bit. Should I switch her back to the crib or keep trying with the toddler daybed?

Alyssa hated her toddler bed at first. A lot of the times she would sleep on the floor. She eventually got use to it though. We didn't do anything special to transition her.

this makes me feel a bit better, thanks   I honestly think she was overtired as well since I put her down late for a nap. How long did it take her to get used to it?

I would switch it back until she is ready. Is it worth the fight? lol! As long she's not trying to climb out(getting hurt) or you need the crib for a younger sibling. I don't see the rush. Good luck!!!

About a month. (Give or take a week).

Every child is different though, and can react differently.

Though, after we switched her into a toddler bed, she stopped taking naps once she got use to it. (She was less than 2 years old).

Yeah I know what you mean. Its just crazy to me she hasnt tried to climb out or anything yet. I figured we could start getting her used to it, but now I'm second guessing myself. I'm going to see how tonight goes lol. I just feel like shes getting so old for a crib, she is a child that HATES change, its very frustrating at times.

Dean hated that daybed lol I was so mad we spent 1000 on that dumb crib specifiically to transition it and I just threw it out lol

We were at some toystore and they had those disney toddler beds with the plastic, they are like 50 bucks I want to say, maybe cheaper and he got so excited, about it, he picked the cars 1, so then we decided to change his room from baby to big boy,

maybe take her to see some on display, I know over here they have them at toys r us and walmart,
He used that bed till he was almost 5, lol he loved it...

yeah the no naps is what I'm afraid of . Shes 27 months old so I figured shes getting a tad big for a crib at this point. One of the main reasons I wanted to switch her too is in case she decides she wants to start potty training..

I honestly can't offer any advice on how to transition her to be honest.

I mean I am one of the mean mommies who makes my kids transition automatically.

The day after my kids turned one, in order to get them off the bottle, I threw the bottles away. (I mainly did that so me and Aaron couldn't give in when they wanted one).

When it came to the toddler bed, I gave the crib away to a friend in need, so I just went out and bought strictly a toddler bed.

ETA: I spoke about my kids as if they're the same age. (Let me clear this up). My daughter is 4, and my son just turned 1 on the 7th of this month.

When we switched our son to the toddler bed he hated it with a passion. So, i went out and got a double mattress, some cool bedding, put it on the floor and he loves it! So.. that will have to do for now...besides, I dont have to worry about him falling off the bed and if he gets sick etc me or DH can go in and sleep with him

I just switched my son. The key was/is the have a really good solid routine evey night, and make sure they are tired at bed time or nap time. My son did surprisingly well right away
