Babies not getting along

posted 11th Jan
I don't know what to do! I babysit a 2 year old and I have have a 1 year old. Lately my son has been wanting to touch and pull on the little girl I watch. Obviously I don't let him but sometimes I can't get to them in time. The little girl freaks out and cries and tries to hit him and even threw a toy at me and it really hurt! How do I help them get along??? Help!

They're kids, let them figure it out on their own.

Your son isn't "not getting along" with the little girl. He's a baby. That's how he discovers and plays.
You just have to keep a close eye on him and try telling him to be gentle when touching her. Don't leave them alone together. Don't try to keep them apart, either, though. Your son will only want to play with her more. Supervise them playing together, until your son learns some limits.

time to start teaching him the word gentle ....my nine month old knows that when we say that word you dont hit pinch or pull you pet stuff (we did it cause I have a service dog who will let him hurt her and i didnt want him to do it to other pets) just say the word we like using gentle and show him what he needs to do we would literally grab my sons hand and run it over my dog took two days
also thats getting along just fine for kids they just dont know how to play together yet supervision is really key here

Thank you. I've been trying everything even "gentle", but she doesn't want to be touched at all, which I totally respect. So I have to be really on my game with them. Oy vey, some days they get along great together but others not so much.

Yes I see what you mean but I just mean even if I teach him how to touch gently, she still doesn't want him to touch her.

Part of teaching him to touch gently isnt just teaching him a word its teaching him boundaries in a way he will understand but as she gets used to him she will be more open to it
it cant all be on your son its on the lil girl as well to be more social
think about how it would be at a daycare with loads of kids sensory overload for her
teach him yes but let them play so long as he is not hurting her

If this is a long term situation I would read siblings without rivalry.
